Farmers Only - Jackson Stephens throws a gem in return to AAA

The righty was nails after his big league cup of coffee.

MLB: Chicago Cubs at Cincinnati Reds David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

Louisville 9, Toledo 1

The Bats bonked the Mud Hens thoroughly on Thursday, and did so with General Jackson Stephens on the mound in his return from a quick cameo with the big league Reds. He was stellar, really, allowing a lone unearned run in 7.0 IP, scattering 8 hits and 2 walks while also fanning a pair. Darnell “Jodie Foster” Sweeney dingered and doubled, Dilson “Chillson” Herrera continued his resurgence with a 3 for 5 night, Adrian Nieto had a 3 hit, 2 run scored night, and Brandon “Hey I was in the Todd Frazier trade, too” Dixon doubled and drove in 3 runs. That’ll do.

Tyler Mahle will be on the bump for Louisville in Friday’s affair.

Pensacola 2, Biloxi 0

Jose Lopez was nearly untouchable on the mound for the Blue Wahoos, allowing just 3 hits and a walk in his 8.0 IP, striking out 7 in the process. All 3 hits were singles, at that. Zack “Wheat Beer” Weiss K’d 2 in a perfect 9th for the save, Nick “No. 2” Senzel doubled and scored one of the runs, Gavin LaValley doubled and drove in a run, and Country Joe Hudson cracked a pair of doubles on the night.

Scott “Austin” Moss gets Friday’s start for Pensacola.

Daytona 9, Clearwater 8

The Tortugas continued the farm’s winning ways with one of their own Thursday, holding off 3 late runs from Clearwater to claim the W. The pitching was...well, let’s talk about the hitters, shall we? Luis “Awkward Open Batting Stance While Singling In Craig Counsell to Win the World Series” Gonzalez went 2 for 4 with a dinger, TJ “Chad” Friedl chipped in with a dinger of his own, leaving Mitch “Jack Kerouac” Piatnik to - you guessed it - crack a dinger, too. James Vasquez doubled twice, scored, and drove in a run as well.

Vlad Gutierrez will be impaling for Daytona in Friday’s game.

Bowling Green 2, Dayton 1

The Dragons lost to throw the whole winning thing in the toilet, but that didn’t mean that Tony “Spiritus” Santillan was truly at fault. The big righty fanned 7 and walked nary a soul in his 6 innings of 2 ER ball. Unfortunately, his offense couldn’t pick him up, as they collected just 5 hits on the night. Tyler Stephenson walked, doubled, and scored a run, and both Jose “Que sera” Siri and Taylor Trammell had 1 for 4 nights, but that was just about it.

Andrew Jordan will be dunking from the free throw line for Dayton on Friday.

Helena 6, Billings 5

If you’re a “being clutch is a skill” truther, you might want to go yell at these two clubs, since they banged out 15 and 12 hits respectively and only managed that 6-5 score. That’s LOB city, man. Jeter “Larry the Cable Guy” Downs went 2 for 6 with 2 runs scored from the leadoff spot (with a dinger), Stuart “Earl of” Fairchild had a 3 for 6 night, and Leandro “Barbosa” Santana honked a donkwagon as part of his 2 for 6 evening. Tyler “Geraldine Ferraro” Mondile went 6 innings and allowed 9 of those hits, resulting in a not-nice 5 ER allowed.

Matt “Why Does Delino DeShield Bench Alex Every Other Day Now That’s Not How You Develop A Prospect” Blandino will toe the rubber for Billings in their Friday game.

(The AZL Reds had Thursday off.)
