Farmers Only: Mahle And Santillan Make Me Happy

Even when skies aren’t grey.

Louisville Bats 2, Norfolk Tides 8

I’ve been doing this long enough I remember almost most of the nicknames for Minor League teams. Yay. You ready for another unsympathetic yay? Cody Reed. Cody went 2.2 innings where he gave up 3 earned runs. He allowed 4 hits, 2 walks, a dinger, and struck out three. I’m really hoping this guy gets it together. I’m willing to let him spend the rest of the year in AAA. There is upside that is if you believe me? When I’ve watched him pitch, even when getting crushed, he was one of the most electric left arms I’ve seen. However, he has to learn placement of his pitches. No one in the bullpen performed well enough particularly to note. The Norfolk Tides have Michael Bourn leading off if that’s interesting to you. Is he on rehab assignment? This was his first registered game in 2017 from I can see. Brandon “Dicks What?” Dixon hit a solo dinger for the Bats, and that was pretty much that from the offense.

Asher “Roethlisberger” Wojciechowski starts this evening at 6:35 PM EST. Where he looks to strike fear into the hearts of Cincinnati seamstresses everywhere.

Pensacola Blue Wahoos 6, Birmingham Braves 2

Y’know, I never get tired of Tyler “Mayhem” Mahle taking names and kicking ass, and I’m about to talk about one of his worst starts of the year, if you can call it that. This start raised his ERA to 1.44 on the year. Mahle pitched 6 innings and gave up 2 earned runs. This was done on 5 hits, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts, and 1 homer. I’ll let you do the math on his K/BB ratio because it’s quite pretty, and you probably need the practice. I will tell you that his career 4.49 K/BB is something you take to dinner and fall in love with at first sight. It’s not like the secret is out, but only a few picked him in the Reds Top 10 prospects. At the end of the season you might see him in the Top 50 nationally. Also, this is your daily reminder that I was on his bandwagon before anyone else. Tyler “Good Day” Goeddel was 3 for 4 with a double, 2 RBI, and a walk. Gabby “God’s Voice” Guerrero was 2 for 5, Eric “Juggs” Jagielo was 2 for 5, Alex “Walkino” Blandino walked twice and scored twice, and Joe “Studly Hudly” Hudson was 2 for 4 with a double, 3 RBI, and a run scored. Nice.

Domingo Tapia will be on the mound, so protect your babies, at 6:35 PM CT.

Daytona Tortugas 2, Florida Fire Frogs 9

Ok. There is no way I guessed the Fire Frogs. I have work to do. Jose “Stuttering Pig” Lopez had by far his worst outing of the season. He gave up 4 earned runs over 5 innings. He allowed 5 hits, walked 4, and struck out three. Even with this bad outing it left his season ERA at 2.45. Sometimes, we just walk into walls, I guess. Austin “1984” Orewiler struck out the side in his one inning, and Sarkis “Shark Kiss” Ohanian struck out 2 in a scoreless inning. Narciso “Nixon Wasn’t A” Crook, well that was a dumb nickname, went 2 for 4 with a double. The rest was meh.

The TBD “The Big Daddy” is on the mound at 7:05 PM EST.

Dayton Dragons 4, Cedar Rapids Kernels 1

Tony “Satan Hot” Santillan was on some kind of freaky fire in this game. He pitched 6 innings and gave up 1 earned run while allowing only 2 hits, no walks, and striking out 10. HOT DAMN. Santillan has had his struggles, but when you see that potential all you can do is get excited. Ryan “Jimi” Hendrix pitched 2 scoreless with 5 strikeouts, and Andy “Hard” Cox pitched a scoreless 9th with 2 K’s to pick up his 2nd save of the season. Does Dayton give pizza after 11 strikeouts? Well, if so they owe 1.545 pizzas give or taking the rounding on pepperonis. James “I Need NIckname Recommendations” Vasquez was 2 for 4 with a RBI, and a run scored, and Brantley “Ding Dong” Bell was 2 for 3 with a run scored and a RBI.

Scott Moss will be on the mound at 7:00 PM EST.

Here’s to hopin’ you all have a freaking wonderful Tuesday. I know I’ll give it my best shot.
