Louisville Bats 0, Indianapolis Indians 6
Not such a good showing by the Bats in this one, as they managed only four hits and gave up five of the six runs to the Indians in the bottom of the first inning. Seth Varner made his Louisville debut (after getting the call from Daytona for the ailing Jon Moscot), and, well he probably wants it back. He failed to record an out in the first inning before giving up 5 runs (4 earned) and being lifted for Stephen "A." Johnson. Johnson pitched 3 innings of no run ball, striking out and walking 3 a piece. Kevin "Love" Shackelford (see, this works a couple of ways) allowed only a hit, a walk, and struck out 2 in his 2 innings. Matt "MaFishLungs" Magill walked 1 and struck out 2 in an inning, while JJ "Used To Be A Major League Pitcher" Hoover gave up a run and a walk in his inning. Wandy Peralta walked one in an otherwise uneventful inning to end the game.
Basically, 6 runs were given up in this one. 5 came on the watch of a guy making his first appearance above A+, the other came at the hands of the guy who was the Reds closer coming out of Spring Training. I feel really bad for JJ Hoover.
Gerrit Cole got the start for the Indians in this one, and made short work of the Bats, uh, bats. Cole struck out 6 in 3 innings. Steve "Too" Selsky managed half of the hits. Tony Renda and Kyle "Make That" Waldrop recorded a hit a piece.
Up Next: Bob Steve will attempt to limit the Indians at 1:35pm and damnit I really should call it a half day at work tomorrow.
Pensacola Blue Wahoos 0, Mobile Bay Bears 10
Ugh, so this is how this is going to go? Rookie "Of The Year" Davis made it only 2 innings in this one, giving up 9 hits. It appears that he was let down by his defense, as only 4 of the 7 runs that were allowed in his tenure were earned. Still, he walked 1 and struck out no one, because that's pretty typical of a Rookie Davis start. Kyle McMyne "With Cheese" pitched 3 innings, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 4. Evan Mitchell "Is Robin" allowed 4 hits and 3 runs (2 dingers) in his 2 innings. Ray Chang pitched a flawless final frame.
Bay Bear Josh Taylor 3 hit the Wahoos in his complete game effort. Juan Duran, Joe Hudson, and Rookie freakin' Davis were the three with hits. Forgetful day for the Wahoos.
Up Next: "Dr." Jackson Stephens will take the hump for the Wahoos at 7:35pm ET against the Bay Bears and some guy named Koch. Heh.
Daytona Tortugas 6, Tampa Yankees 2
Tejay Antone got the start and was very solid, working around 7 hits in 7 innings, allowing only 1 earned run and walking nobody, striking out 3. "His Name Was" Jake Paulson worked a solid inning in relief, allowing only a hit and striking out 2. Jeremy was Kivel but not quite Bits, allowing 2 hits, a walk, and an earned run in 0.1 inning, before being lifted for "Goldmember" Alex Powers, who struck out the next 2 batters to bring home the win for the Dragonas.
Gavin "Down in" LaValley had 2 hits, a double, an RBI, and a run scored in this one, only to be outdone by Aristides Aquino, who had 2 doubles, 2 RBIs, and a run scored. Blake Trahan walked twice and scored 2 runs, Brian "Beef" O'Grady had a hit and 2 walks, and Blake "Blame it on the" Butler had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.
Up Next: Wendolyn "Dave" Bautista will take the mound against Tampa at 7 bells.
Dayton Dragons 3, Lansing Lugnuts 7
Austin "Eric Arthur" Orewiler didn't have his best stuff, battling around 8 hits and no-so-great defense, allowing only 4 earned runs out of the 7 allowed. He walked only 1 and struck out only 2 in 5 innings. Jordan "THE STUFF IS TOO RAW" Ramsey pitched the final 3, walking 3 and striking out one, but allowing no hits or runs. Kevin Franklin and Brantley Bell provided the bulk of the hitting, getting 3 a piece, with Franklin driving in 1 and scoring while Bell doubled. Mitch "Tree" Piatnik mashed a dinger.
Up Next: J.Lo Jose Lopez will pitch for the Dragons at 7:05 ET.
Helena Brewers 2, Billings Mustangs 3
Adrian "A-Rod" Rodriguez had a good day, going 5 innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 runs, striking out 7. Joel "KUUUHHHN" Kuhnel pitched an inning allowing only a hit, while Zac "Insomniac" Correll pitched a flawless 2 innings, striking out 1. "The Jesse's" Adams and Stallings combined for the 9th, walking 1 batter a piece, with Stallings striking out 1. Stallings also took the mound when the game went into extras, allowing a hit and striking out another. Soid Marquez took over in the 11th, allowing nothing and getting the win. Taylor Trammell was 2-5 on the night with an RBI, Colby Wright had a hit and a walk. Hector "What Happens in" Vargas had 2 hits and Daniel Sweet "and Sour" whacked the walk off hit.
Up Next: Moises "Chevy" Nova will go for Billings at 9:05pm ET.
AZL Brewers 6, AZL Reds 4
Jonathan Crawford survived his last start, allegedly, and started this one, allegedly! Crawdaddy went 2 innings, allowing 2 hits and 2 walks, striking out 2. Pretty good for a guy whose shoulder is made of butter. Luis Alecis pitched 4.1 innings, allowing 2 runs and striking out 4. Darren Shred allowed a hit and struck out 1 in 0.2 innings pitched. Aaron "Mu" Fossas walked a batter and struck out a batter in his 1 inning of work before Connor "In it to" Bennett coughed up the lead in his inning of work. Jarrett "Rockin' in the" Freeland was worse, allowing the dagger runs (2) on 3 hits in 1 inning of work. Morgan Lofstrom smacked 2 hits, including a double, collecting an RBI and a run scored. Pabel Manzanero whacked 2 and scored a run, and Michael Beltre collected an RBI.
Up Next: I assume people will pitch, but MiLB.com isn't telling me who.
