Series Preview: Reds versus Cubs, again

Why.

Game Times and Probable Pitchers

Wrigley Field

Monday, July 4, 2016, 2:20 ET: LHP Cody Reed vs. RHP Kyle Hendricks

Tuesday, July 5, 2016, 2:20 ET: LHP Brandon Finnegan vs. RHP John Lackey

Wednesday, July 6, 2016, 2:20 ET: RHP Anthony DeSclafani vs. TBA

Oh my God why is this happening again? Why Why Why.

The Reds go into this one having won one game against the Cubs in 2016, in at least 765 tries. They’ll get three more chances, of course. TBA is pitching Wednesday. Hopefully it’s not...

Lineup

C Miguel Montero

1B Anthony Rizzo

2B Ben Zobrist

SS Addison Russell

3B Kris Bryant

LF Albert Almora?

CF Dexter Fowler

RF Jason Heyward

I don’t even know who they throw in LF when Bryant’s playing third, but does it matter? Honestly, they should probably just play with seven out there, and then Kris Bryant could bash like 5 home runs in the game with extra PAs.

One time, Anthony Rizzo got eaten by the field tarp. That’s probably our best bet in this series. Get ‘em, tarp. Nom.

Bullpen

Hector Rondon

Trevor Cahill

Travis Wood

Pedro Strop

Justin Grimm

Spencer Patton

Carl Edwards

Joel Peralta

There are actually some sketchy parts of this bullpen. So, naturally, there’s really only one thing for the Cubs to do in the coming month. Unleash the missile.

So far, all they’ve done is pick up a 40-year-old Joel Peralta and, in a really bold move, a NASCAR driver. If you can drive fast you can throw fast, I suppose?

Oh, I just remembered who plays LF for the Cubs when Kris Bryant is at third.

Outlook

For the Reds? Psh.
