Farmers Only Weekend Harvest: Louisville and Pensacola go sweeping

The Taylor Sparks show also rolled through Daytona in another solid weekend on the farm.

Louisville Bats 6, Lehigh Valley IronPigs 4

The Louisville Bats were able to come from behind and get the victory in the 11th inning against Lehigh Valley on Friday. Robert "Bob Steve" Stephenson got the start and went 7.2 innings, giving up 4 earned runs on only 5 hits while walking 3 and striking out 5. Kyle "NASCAR" Waldrop had a solid night at the plate, going 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored. "Uncle" Jesse Winker was 2 for 4 with a walk and scored a run, Scott "Mr. Schneebly" Schebler was 2 for 5 with a double, and Juan Perez also had 2 hits as a part of his 2 for 6 night with 1 RBI. Matt "Mr. Magoo" Magill was solid in relief and got the win, striking out 3 in 2 scoreless innings. Jumbo Diaz also pitched a scoreless inning to get the save.

Pensacola Blue Wahoos 9, Birmingham Barons 1

It was a great night all around for Pensacola, as they defeated Birmingham 9-1 on Friday. Barrett "A little place called" Astin got the start, giving up 1 earned run on 3 hits in 5 innings with 5 strikeouts. Tony Renda was 4 for 5 on the night with a walk and a run scored. Sebastian "The Lizard" Elizalde was 2 for with 1 RBI and Chad "Walla Walla" Wallach Wallached a 3-run dinger as part of his 1 for 3, 4 RBI night. Nick Routt and El'Hajj Muhammad were both solid out of the bullpen, each recording 3 strikeouts in 2 scoreless innings of relief.

Daytona Tortugas 1, Dunedin Blue Jays 13

The Tortugas got blasted on Friday night, falling to Dunedin 13-1. Seth Varner got the start, going 5.0 innings while giving up 5 earned runs on 7 hits while walking 2 and striking out 5. Blake "Country Breakfast" Butler was 3 for 4 on the evening. Taylor "Jordynn" Sparks was 1 for 3 with the only RBI on the evening and Ty Washington was 2 for 4 with the only run scored on the evening. Ty also got to try his pitching skills out, but unfortunately he gave up 2 ER in his only inning on the mound.

Dayton Dragons 2, West Michigan Whitecaps 3

Dayton was unable to hold onto a late lead, falling to West Michigan 3-2 Friday evening. Austin "Brock" Orewiler was solid in his start, going 7 scoreless innings while giving up 5 hits and striking out 5. Mitch "Not an Ent" Trees was 1 for 4 with a double, RBI, and run scored and Hector Vargas was also 1 for 4 with a run scored. Unfortunately, Jeremy Kivel and Micah Sullivan did their Reds bullpen impression, giving up a combined 3 runs in only 1 combined inning of relief.


Louisville 2, Lehigh Valley 0

Louisville took advantage of 2 first inning solo shots to earn the victory on Saturday, defeating Lehigh Valley 2-0. Keyvius "Hey There, Delilah" Sampson had another solid AAA outing, pitching 5 scoreless innings with only 3 hits and 5 strikeouts. Jermaine "Dupree" Curtis was 2 for 4 with one of the aforementioned solo home runs, and Carlos Triunfel had the other dinger as a part of his 1 for 4 evening. Jose Peraza and Chris Berset had the other 2 hits for the bats on the evening. J.J. Hoover gave up 2 hits in his scoreless inning of relief, and Steve Delebar earned the save in his scoreless inning.

Pensacola 5, Birmingham 4

The Wahoos took advantage of late insurance runs on Saturday in a 5-4 victory over Birmingham. "Nasty" Nick Travieso got the start and minimized some damage, giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 11 hits while striking out 6 in 5. innings.  Phil "Phlervin" Ervin broke out of a short slump, going 3 for 4 with a double, 1 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Tony Renda also had 3 hits, going 3 for 5 with 2 doubles while also scoring 2 runs. Donald "The Knockwurst" Lutz and Joe Hudson were each 2 for 4 with 1 RBI. Evan Mitchell "Is Batman" and "Don't Call My Name" Alejandro Chacin combined for 3.1 scoreless innings of relief.

Daytona 11, Dunedin 6

Things went better on the offensive side for Daytona on Saturday, as they defeated Dunedin 11-6. Tejay Antone "Jameson" went 8 innings and gave up 5 runs on 6 hits while striking out 5. Angelo "I have a good name" Gumbs crushed it at the plate, going 4 for 5 with a solo dinger, 3 runs scored, and 4 RBI.  Taylor Sparks also knocked the crap out of the ball, going 3 for 5 while honking 2 dingers and driving in 4. Ronald "Es Muy" Bueno was 2 for 5 with a solo donger and Aristides "Heiress Titties" Aquino was also 2 for 5 with a double and 1 RBI. Nick ":(" Howard walked 3 and gave up an earned run in only .1 inning of work, unfortunately.

Dayton 1, West Michigan 3

A late comeback attempt was enough for Dayton on Saturday, as they fell to West Michigan again by a score of 3-1. Jacob Constante"nople" got the start, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits in 6.1 innings while walking 2 and striking out 1. James Vasquez was solid at the plate, going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and the only run scored. That was about it for the offense. Josh "Mira"Laxer pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief while collecting 2 strikeouts. Gerson "Knowshon" Moreno gave up a run in his only inning out of the bullpen.


Louisville 10, Lehigh Valley 6

Louisville shook off an early deficit on Sunday, coming back to defeat Lehigh Valley 10-6. Cody Reed came back from a 5-run first inning to throw 6 innings, giving up 5 runs (4 earned) while only walking 2 and striking out 7. There was no shortage of offense for the Bats, as Juan Perez, Hernan "The Barbarian" Irbarren, Steve "Too" Selsky "To Make Outs", Brandon "Arkansas QB" Allen, and Kyle Waldrop each collected 2 hits and 1 RBI on the afternoon. Jose Peraza also collected a hit in his only at-bat. Seth Mejias-Brean "Burrito" also had a hit and 1 RBI. Jumbo Diaz struck out 2 in a scoreless inning of relief.

Pensacola 12, Birmingham 5

The Blue Wahoos kept on rolling against Birmingham, picking up a 12-5 win Sunday afternoon. Amir Garrett got the start, giving up 3 runs on 2 hits in 6 innings of work. He also struck out 7 and walked 4. His ERA for the season is now 1.97. I think that's good. Like their friends in Louisville, they did not have trouble generating runs. Brandon Dixon was 3 for 5 with a double, 3 runs scored, 6 RBI, and mashed 2 honkers on the afternoon. Not a bad day. Tony Renda was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored, a double, and 1 RBI. Jeff Gelalich came in for Renda at one point and also collected 2 hits. Bryson Smith was 2 for 4 with a walk and 1 RBI and Zach "Soft J" Vincej was 1 for 5 with 1 RBI and scored a run. Kevin Shackelford struck out 1 batter in a scoreless inning of relief.

Pensacola is off today.

Daytona 8, Dunedin 4

Daytona was able to fend off a late comeback attempt, defeating Dunedin 8-4 on Sunday. "His Name Was" Jake Paulson got the start, going 3.2 innings while giving up 4 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and had 3 strikeouts. Taylor Sparks continued his hot weekend going 4 for 4 with a triple, a dinger, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI. Aristides Aquino was 2 for 4 with 1 RBI and Gavin LaValley was 1 for 4 with a double, a run scored, and 2 RBI. Alex "Danger" Powers got the win after giving up only 1 earned run in 2.1 innings.

Tyler Mahle gets the start at 7:05 PM ET tonight.

Dayton 2, West Michigan 3

It was another close loss for Dayton, as they fell 3-2 to West Michigan on Sunday. Jose Lopez gave up 3 runs on 7 hits while walking 2 and striking out 5 in 5 innings of work. Shane Mardirosian was 3 for 5 with a double and a triple, Shed "Love Me" Long" Time was 2 for 3 with a double and 1 RBI, and Jose "Kevin" Duarte was 2 for 4 with a solo dinger. Sandy Lugo and Ariel Hernandez were solid out of the pen, combining for 3 scoreless innings in relief.
