Red Reporter Roster Prediction Contest Results

We're not very good at this!

Going into Spring Training, there were about 10 guys in camp that were locks to make the roster. With the potential for injuries, late trades, and a bullpen that was literally a crap-shoot, we really had no idea who would have taken the field yesterday against the Phillies. So we asked you, Red Reporters, to give us your best guesses and predictions on who would be on the opening day roster.

Before I reveal the winner and results, I will tell you some of how I scored this. I gave one point for naming the correct player and position, and half-a-point for naming the correct player and the wrong position. This only came into play once, with somebody guessing that Brandon Finnegan would be a reliever (In order to save myself from typing .5 next to everyone's score, I chose not to do this with Adam Duvall because literally everybody projected him as an infielder.). All that being said, a lot of our rosters were pretty much the same. The lowest score was 16 points, and we had an 8(!)-way tie for first place at 18 points. However, only one of those players that scored 18 predicted Tyler Holt! to be on the roster this season. That person, and your 2016 RR Prediction Contest Winner, is the finest muffins! The first observation is that there were obviously three guys who made the roster that weren't in camp when it started in Simon, Ohlendorf, and Straily. Secondly, injuries suck. The most correct picks that anyone got in the starting rotation were two, in Iglesias and Finnegan because of injuries to Lorenzen, Moscot, and DeSclafani. Yorman was another one who was included in everyone's predictions that went down to injuries. Lastly, as I noted above, the bullpen was a crapshoot. A lot of us had faith in Carlos Contreras making the roster. He did not. Same with O'Grady and AA save-master Zach Weiss. They also did not. The one lock in the bullpen, J.J. Hoover, did make it, and we all got it right! Anyways, take a look at the table and laugh at some of our dumb predictions (LOL ARF I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU THOUGHT ADLEMAN WOULD MAKE IT). Most of all, enjoy the off-day. The Reds are 1-0 and baseball is back tomorrow.
