As many of us are sitting around our televisions watching the first games of the 2016 MLB season it's easy to forget that the minor league season is quickly approaching. As the big boys emerged from the dugouts to much pomp and circumstance the minor league teams will soon be announcing their rosters and playing some real ball of their own. Get ready because Farmers Only is on its way back.
On Sunday, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos were the first Reds minor league affiliate to announce their rosters (read: have the Reds tell them their players). The announcement can be found here.
The Wahoos are shaping up to look like quite the exciting team to follow in 2016.
Pitchers (14): Barrett Astin, David Chacin, Rookie Davis, Amir Garrett, Carlos Gonzalez, Kyle McMyne, Evan Mitchell, Jimmy Moran, El'Hajj Muhammad, Wandy Peralta, Sal Romano, Nick Routt, Jackson Stephens, Nick Travieso
Catchers (2): Joe Hudson, Chad Wallach
Infielders (6): Ray Chang, Calten Daal, Brandon Dixon, Eric Jagielo, Tony Renda, Zach Vincej
Outfielders (5): Beau Amaral, Pin-Chieh Chen, Sebastian Elizalde, Phillip Ervin, Donald Lutz
The most exciting portion of the team looks to be the starting rotation which will probably look something like...
Amir Garrett
Rookie Davis
Nick Travieso
Sal Romano
Barrett Astin/Wandy Peralta
The top four are basically Top 15 prospect. That's pretty cool.
Other bigger name prospects to watch are Phillip Ervin, Eric Jagielo, Calten Daal, Sebastian Elizalde, and I guess Chad Wallach (I'm still holding out hope). Plus, everyone's favorite German, Donald Lutz is gonna spend some time on the beach and hitting honkballs.
LUXEMBOURG!!!
One player that has not been announced is Alex Blandino. Rumor is he tweaked a thigh muscle or something while playing in the WBC qualifiers. That could be a reason he is not on the roster, or it's because he will be starting the season in AAA.
