Hope springs eternal, and all that jazz.
It's Opening Day in Cincinnati, and as I alluded to earlier, the result of this is the least important part of today for Reds fans. Let's hope it's an enjoyable game, and that nobody gets hurt. That's about all we can ask for.
Raisel Iglesias makes the Opening Day start for the Redlegs, obviously, his first. He actually went through the festivities and fanfare last year, but got to sit and take it all in. Today, he's the guy.
Iglesias got a little bit of a late start to the spring, only appearing in 3 games, but pitched a tune up minor league game last week and should carry momentum from that into today. He's actually never faced the Phillies.
On the other side of the mound, we'll see Jeremy Hellickson take his Opening Day nod for the Phils. Hellickson is the veteran in the Philly rotation at just 28, and will be making his regular season debut for the Phillies today. He's a former Rookie of the Year with the Rays, and pitched for the Diamondbacks last year.
Oddly enough, he's only faced the Reds once in his career, giving up 3 ER in 6 innings all the way back in 2011. There were only 3 current Reds on that team.
Go Reds! They're my favorite team that has their first game today!
