Louisville Bats 6, Durham Bulls 2
Johnny "Woah Black Betty, Bam-ba" Lamb make his 3rd rehab start in this one and improved mightily from his last two outings. Lamb would go 8 innings in this one, allowing 8 hits and only 2 earned runs, walking 1 and striking out 5. With Gopper leaving the game early for the big league club last night, Lamb righting the ship is a welcome sight to the Reds front office. AJ "Slater" Morris cleaned up the 9th with nothing allowed and 2 Ks. Ramon "Clutch-Man Jr." Cabrera had 3 hits, an RBI and a run scored. Hernan Iribarren "Land" had 2 hits and a double, while Kyle "Make The" Waldrop had a double and 2 RBI.
Up Next: Josh "Boring Name" Smith will attempt to continue his hot start when the Bats meet the Bulls at 7:05pm EDT.
Pensacola Blue Wahoos
...were off last night.
Clearwater Threshers 14, Daytona Tortugas 2
Ouch. This one was rough for the Daytona pitching staff. Clearwater threshed the Dragonas for 12 runs in the 6th thanks to multiple culprits. Tejay Antone got the start and went 5 innings before running into a boatload of trouble in the 6th. His final line was a dang worthy 5.0 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 6 ER, with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Scott Brattvet would come on in relief, but it wasn't much of a relief. Scotty only lasted 0.1 IP, allowing 4 earned runs and 2 walks. Scott Brattvet is now the owner of a nice and tidy, 2016 Reds bullpenesque ERA of 108. Alex "La Flama Blanca" Powers checked in and wasn't a helluva lot better, but managed 1.2 IP with 3 hits and 2 earned, striking out 4. Maybe the most miraculous damn thing in this one was that 12 runs were scored in 1 inning and Nick "Remember I Was A First Round Pick?" Howard wasn't involved in it. In fact, Howard went 1 full inning in this one, allowing nothing and striking out 2!
'Twas a quiet day for the Baby Turtle bats as well. Aristides Aquino shined in this one, blasting 2 home runs and walking twice. Angelo "Bubble" Gumbs pitched in with 2 hits.
Up Next: Jack the Snake Paulson will look to lower his 8.59 ERA against Clearwater at 7:05pm EDT.
Kane County Cougars 9, Dayton Dragons 0
Kane County rained hellfire and brimstone on the Dragons, mostly because of the crappy banana pancakes the Dragons defense was serving up for Jake Johnson. Johnson only lasted 2 innings, allowing 5 runs, but only 1 of them was earned. Wendolyn "Pitch Flip" Bautista picked up 3 IP, allowing an earned run and a walk with 2 strikeouts. "The Big Mermaid" Ariel Hernandez was big in his 2 innings of work, striking out 3 and, according to Reds minor league ace Doug Gray, touching 97 on the gun and flashing a sick breaking ball. Juan "Anti-Pedro" Martinez gave up 3 more runs to finish, but, whatever.
The Dragons offense could only manage 4 hits, 2 of them off the bat of Hector "Whart Harpens In" Vargas. Brantly "Taco" Bell and Narciso "Captain" Crook chipped in with hits but the Dragons took a big ole nap in this one.
Up Next: Anthony DeSclafani will (should?) blow away Kane County at 7:00pm EDT.
