Louisville Bats 5, Toledo Mud Hens 7
Robert Stephenson got the start in this one and, well, it didn't go well. I searched up and down (I checked Twitter for like, 5 minutes) and found nothing concerning injury, but the Reds top pitching prospect lasted only 3 innings in this one, giving up 8 hits, 6 earned on 2 walks and 4 strike outs. Miguel "Stars" Celestino went 1.2 IP in relief with 2 hits, a walk and a strike out. Layne Somsen "In The Water" followed with 1.1 innings of 1 hit, 2 walks and 2 strike outs ball, followed closely Hernan "The Barbarian" Iribarren's 2 IP, 3 hits, 1 earned outing. The Bats offense didn't wake until the 7th, but it proved to not be enough against Toledo. Only Chris Berset managed more than one hit, though nearly every other Bat got one of their own. Kyle "Wick's Gonna Make His New House's" Waldrop was 1-4 with 2 RBI, while Sean Buckley, Juan Silva, and Chris Dominguez all batted in a run.
Up Next: David "HolmSlice" Holmberg will attempt to find the strike zone again in AAA tonight against the Mud Hens at 6:30 EDT.
Pensacola Blue Wahoos 7, Jackson Generals 8
The Wahoos blasted 13 hits and scored 7 runs, but they were edged out by the Generals. "Double" Barrett Astin started this one for Pensacola and went 3.1 IP with 8 hits, 7 ER, with 2 walks and 3 strike outs, which falls quite a bit short of stellar. "JakeJohn" Jacob Johnson gave up a run and 3 hits of his own in his 0.1 inning of work. Patrick Schuster, Kyle McMyne and Kevin Shackelford finished this one out with varying degrees of success, none giving up a run. Alex "The Great" Blandino blasted a home run in a 3-5, 2 RBI effort, "Uncle" Jesse Winker chipped in with 2 hits of his own (one being a double) and a run scored. Kyle "What's A" Skipworth mashed a double, walked once, managed 2 runs batted in and scored a run of his own. Seth Mejias-Brean was 2-3 with 2 walks and an RBI.
Up Next: Nope.
Daytona Tortugas 2, Clearwater Threshers 3
In game one of a rain-caused doubleheader, the Dragonas fell to the Threshers. Amir "Levi" Garrett tossed a nice one, with 6 IP, 5 hits, 2 earned runs and 2 strike outs to go with a walk. "The Other" Carlos Gonzalez relieved Garrett and gave up a run of his own in 1.2 IP on a home run. Jimmy "Get A Brain" Moran also went 0.1 IP with a bunch of zeros. The Tortuga offense managed only 2 runs on 6 hits, featured prominently by a 2 RBI day for Brian "Beef" O'Grady. Daniel "Water" Pigott registered 2 hits, while Sebastian "Bach" Elizalde Votto'd his way to a 1-2 day with 2 walks.
Up Next: Keury Mella "Yella" takes on the Threshers in game two... about that...
Daytona Tortugas 3, Clearwater Threshers 0
Remember what I told you about Keury Mella? Forget it, either he was scratched or my MiLB app was wrong. Seth Varner got the call for this one and went a very respectable 5 IP with 2 hits and 3 strike outs. Blog Fave El'Hajj Muhammad pitched a great inning, with only 1 walk as a blemish. Alejandro Chacin saved the game with 1 IP, a hit, a walk, and a strike out. The Tortugas only managed 3 hits themselves in this one, but it was enough to get the W. I'll be damnd if Daniel Pigott didn't record all of the RBIs in this one (with 2) while Sebastian Elizalde and Taylor "BOOTYBOOTYBOOTYROCKINEVERYWHERE" Sparks managed a hit a piece.
Up Next: Nada.
Dayton Dragons 1, Lake County Captains 5
Tejay "Tee-hay" Antone took the bump for this one and pitched a good 6 innings with 3 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks and 3 strike outs. Jeremy Kivel "and Bits" was less good, allowing 2 earned in his 2.1 innings with 2 walks. Jacob Ehret mopped up 0.2 innings with 2 strike outs and a walk. Aristides "Heiress Titties" Aquino managed the only run for the Dragonson a 2-4 night. Gavin LaValley also managed a hit and a walk.
Up Next: Jake "His Name Was Robert" Paulson will battle South Bend at 7:05 EDT.
Billings Mustangs 3, Helena Brewers 6
The Stangs finished quite a losing day by losing one themselves, just for good measure. Franderlyn Romero went 5.0 IP for Billings, allowing 8 hits and 6 runs (3 ER), while walking and striking out none. Soid Marquez went 2 IP, allowed 3 hits and struck out 2, while Sandy Lugo went the final inning, allowing 1 hit and striking out 1. Franderlyn, Soid, and Lugo? No need for silly nicknames when they do it all themselves. Kevin Garcia featured a 2-5 night with a dinger, Zach Shields managed a hit and an RBI, and Shane Mardirosian hit nothing but walked in a run.
Up Next: Uh uh.
