Farmers Only: Robert Stephenson Is Movin' On Up

To AAA. Don't get too excited.

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

Before reading about everything that happened last evening to our favorite minor league teams, you should know that Robert Stephenson was promoted to AAA!  He had a rough start to the season but has been kicking heiny lately.  If he pitches well, he could be a dark horse for a September call up.  It's a good thing!  However...

Louisville got their booties kicked last night, 10-1.  David "Mongo" Holmberg started for the bats and had a very Holmberg like start (7 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 2 K).  If he ever strikes out more than 5 batters in a game I'll eat a hat or something.  Jermaine "Lee" Curtis hit a solo wanger. Buschman starts tonight at 7:05 PM EST.

Pensacola fell to 20 games under .500 last night with a 6-2 loss to Jacksonville.  They also just lost Robert Stephenson, however will they cope? Wandy Peralta started the game but only kinda (0.2 IP, 4 ER, 1 BB, 0 K).  Jacob "Jingleheimer" Johnson picked up the slack and threw 5.1 scoreless innings.  Ben Klimesh and Zack Weiss also sported clean winnings with lots of strikeouts.  Jesse Winker and Juan Duran (Welcome back to AA, bud!) both went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk.  Danny Wright starts tonight at 6:35 PM CST.

Daytona quelled my fears that I would get to write about a win with a 5-4 victory over Lakeland.  The Tortugulars used six pitchers in the game, but Nick Routt gave them a good start (5.1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K).  Nick Howard walked 3 batters in 0.1 IP and was docked for 2 earned runs.  The guy just can't find the plate with any regularity.  Junior Felix Arias and Alex Blandino both hit solo wangers in the game.  The Great Blandino was 3 for 4 with a double and a 2 runs scored, as well.  He's quickly making himself a top prospect.  General Jackson Stephens pitches tonight at 7:05 PM EST.

Dayton just wanted to be like their big brother, and defeated the Crazy Loons by a score of 5-4.  Wyatt "Earp" Strahan continues to impress with the Dragons (8 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 5 K).  His ERA for the season is sitting at a tidy 3.00.  Narciso Crook hit a solo dinger, and Jonathon Reynoso was 2 for 4 with a RBI.  Teehee Antone pitches tonight at 7:00 pm EST.

Billings and Helena served up a Big Sky Pioneer League Special last night with Billings coming out on the loser side, 10-9. Jacob Constante started the game and struck out 3 in 4 innings but also walked 3 and gave up 4 earned runs.  The bullpen was equally as bad.  Jonathan "J" Martijn was 3 for 5 with 3 RBI. Blake Trahan, Brantley Bell, Jose Duarte, and Hector Vargas all had 2 hit games.  Tanner Rainey starts tonight at 7:05 pm MT.

The AZL Reds were victorious against the Giants, 5-2.  Wendolyn Bautista pitched the most innings, so I'll consider him the starter, and he was good (4.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K).  Wendolyn is also the name of a bar I frequent that has all you can eat frog legs on Friday nights.  Actually, it is call Wendelin which is close enough.  Manual Aybar, Miguel Aguila, and Jean Lara all pitched scoreless innings in relief.  Jose "Ask" Siri and Cory Thompson both hit dingers and had 2 RBI.
