Injury Report 7/18 - Healthy Period for Big Club

No one on the 25-man roster got injured over the past two weeks

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

For the first time this season, the previous two weeks have not resulted in a single Reds player going on the DL or even getting injured and missing some games.  This is actually pretty rare during any season, but it feels nice, even if the Reds aren't competing.  Nobody likes injuries.  The only new news on the injury front for the big league club is the return of two players from the DL.  OF Jason Bourgeois returned from the 60-day DL on June 28, where he had spent the entire season up to that point (88 days) with a fracture in his left shoulder.  He has 2 singles in 12 PAs since his return, which includes two starts, 5 PH appearances, and one appearance as a defensive replacement, so he has obviously been used sparingly over these three weeks.  The other return for the Reds was for SP Raisel Iglesias, who missed 41 days with a strained oblique.  Iglesias has made only one (poor) start since returning.

In the minor leagues, silly season is really ramping up where guys go on the DL with no official transactions, they sometimes show up on the rosters of rehab teams and other times on the rosters of their assigned teams, etc.  But I am doing my best to track it all down.  At AAA Louisville, OF Bryson Smith returned from the 7-day DL on July 6 after missing 54 days with a strained right forearm.  SS Josciel Veras has had a rough couple of weeks: he returned from the DL on July 11 after missing two weeks with a sprained right wrist.  Two days later he injured himself again and went back on the DL for the same injury.  Tony Cingrani made a rehab start yesterday in which he was was working 90-91 with his fastball and looked to have good bite on his breaking ball.  He pitched 5 scoreless, but was inefficient and tiring by the end of the 4th.  So basically, he looked more or less like the same Tony Cingrani as usual.  Doug Gray (and others) have been wondering whether the Reds are stretching him back out as a starter, which both makes sense and kind of doesn't, at the same time, if that's possible.

At A+ Daytona, P Jonathan Crawford came off the 7-day DL on July 13, where he had been for the whole season (104 days).  He had started rehab on June 29.  OF Phillip Ervin returned on July 6 after missing 8 days, and C Chad Wallach returned the same day after missing the minimum 7.  Continually injured OF Jon Matthews landed on the DL on July 6.  He went to the DL twice last year, and has only once managed more than 60 games in a season.  C Julio Morillo was placed on the DL on July 6, because at least one Morillo is required to be on the DL at all times.  Junior Morillo had returned barely a month earlier after missing 204 days.  RP Nick Howard was placed on the DL on July 11.

At A- Dayton, RP Dan Langfield has been on the DL since the start of the season, but has recently been assigned to Dayton's roster.  Rp Daniel Pigott has also been on the DL the whole season, and began a rehab assignment on July 1.  OF Aristides Aquino returned from the DL on July 15 after missing 81 days with an undisclosed injury.  OF Jimmy Pickens was placed on the DL on July 15 with a sprained left shoulder.
