Farmers Only: Hungry Like the Wolf

Louisville was off for the AAA All-Star Game.  Irving Falu was the only Bat to participate, and he went 0-2.  Robert Stephenson walks the plank tonight as the Bats kick off the second half against Scranton/Wilkes Barre.

Pensacola got beat down by the Birmingham Barons, losing a 14-8 slugfest.  Bad pitching all around for the Wahoos, most notably from Josh Smith, who less than two weeks ago was enjoying all the pleasures of being on a major league roster.  Last night Smith was getting rocked in a AA game, giving up 6 runs in 3.2 innings pitched, with 4 strikeouts and a walk.  Juan Duran was swinging the pepperoni stick last night, going 2-3 with a 3-run dinger.  Kyle Skipworth went deep as well, going 1-3 with a solo shot and a walk.  Barret Astin takes the hill tonight at 8:05.

Daytona got nailed by the Jupiter Hammerheads, falling 6-4.  Sal Romano sputtered through 5.1 innings, giving up 5 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits with 2 strikeouts and a walk.  Sebastian Elizalde had a nice night at the dish, going 2-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI.  Seth Varner "Herzog" looks into the abyss tonight at 6:35.

Dayton got wiped out by West Michigan, losing 2-1 to the Whitecaps.  Tyler "Darth" Mahle tossed 6 strong innings, giving up 1 run on 5 hits, while striking out 2 and walking none.  Jacob "I Think I Smell" Ehret gave up an unearned walk-off run in the 9th, although it was his throwing error that allowed the winning run to reach base.  The Dragons offense was rather offensive, as they only managed two hits on the night and their only run was unearned.  Garrett Boulware went 1-2 with a double, which is about the only notable night at the plate.  Jake Paulson gets the start tonight as the Dragons continue their series against the Whitecaps.

Billings waited out a rain delay to shut out the Orem Owlz 6-0.  Kevin Franklin went 1-4 with a 3-run dinger in the first inning.  Two batters later, Reydel "Funky Cold" Medina honked a solo wanger to put the Mustangs up 4-0.  That would prove to be enough, as the Billings staff combined for a 4-hit shutout, with 9 strikeouts and 6 walks.  Ty Boyles takes the hill tonight at 9:05.

Arizona beat the baby Padres 4-1.  Jake Turnbull did most of the damage, smacking a 3-run dinger on a 2-4 night.  Ryan Wright went 1-4 with a double in a rehab appearance.  Adrian Rodriguez looked sharp, striking out 8 and walking none over 5 1-run, 2-hit innings.  The 18-year old righty has been solid so far this season, sporting a 3.22 ERA with 21 K and 4 BB over 22.1 innings.
