The Louisville Bats were shut out by the Indianapolis Indians Thursday night, losing 4-0. The Bats collected just five hits and one walk on the night. Irving "Berlin" Falu tripled. "Peabo" Bryson Smith doubled and walked. "Bob" Dylan Axlerod went 6 innings, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) while striking out 6. Joe "Floyd" Paterson threw two scoreless innings, and Collin "Powell" Balester added a clean inning of his own. Raisel "Julio" Iglesias continues to rehab in Toledo against the Mud Hens at 7:00.
The Pensacola Blue Wahoos survived a late rally by the Montgomery Biscuits, squeaking out a 3-2 victory. Juan Duran "Duran" provided two of the six Pensacola hits, with a 2B and a 3B, as the Blue Wahoos jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Josh Smith "and Wesson" took over from there and was hitting the target all night, posting 10 Ks against a lone BB in 8 shutout innings. He gave way to "Selena" Kyle McMyne, who allowed two singles and a double in the ninth to score the first run for Montgomery and put the tying run on second. "Dan" Patrick Schuster - I've never heard of him either - was brought and walked a guy to load the bases. The Blue Wahoos brought in Zack "Morris" Weiss to shut the door. A force at second brought Montgomery within a run, leaving runners on the corners, but "Darryl" Kyle Skipworth gunned down the trail runner on a steal attempt to end the game. "Grin and" Barrett Astin is up tonight at 7:35.
Daytona got a win of their own behind "Cousin" Sal Romano, besting the Dunedin Blue Jays 5-1. Like Smith, Romano went 8 strong innings, striking out 5 and allowing a single unearned run. "Uncle" Phil Ervin had a hit and drove in two runs, while Carlton Daal "Baby" paced the offense with three hits including a 2B. Seth "Rogen" Varner takes the hill as the Tortugas open a series at home against Bradenton at 7:05 tonight.
Dayton broke out the whooping sticks, pounding the Bowling Green Hot Rods 11-2. Tyler "Good Golly Miss" Mahle pitched well, allowing one run in 6 innings, but the offense was the story here. Jimmy "Nose" Pickens homered and drove in 5 as part of a three hit night. "You're So" Avain Rachal doubled twice in going 3 for 5. Gavin "Lilly of" LaValley and Luis "LuGon" Gonzalez each had a pair of hits, and Shedric "Shama Lama Ding" Long homered to join in the fun. The Dragons look to keep it going tonight by sending out some guy named Jake "Henry" Paulson to take on the Lansing Lugnuts at 7:00.
Billings finished a suspended game with the Orem Owlz, losing 11-7, before dropping the scheduled game by a 5-1 margin. In the completion of the suspended game, rehabbing Aristedes "Ferdinand" Aquino and Tyler "Too" Stephenson each posted three hits. "Jeff" Blake Trahan and Hector "Jose Antonio" Vargas added two hits apiece. The nightcap was a pitcher's duel for seven innings before Orem hung four runs on Jake "Jingleheimer" Johnson in the eighth. Jose "Canseco" Lopez and Juan "Gonzalez" Martinez combined to allow just a single run over the first 7 innings. At the dish, Kevin "Nealon" Garcia had two of the team's 7 singles - all the offense they could muster. Ty "Cobb" Boyles looks to continue his strong start to the 2015 season at 9:15 against the Owlz.
The AZL Reds won 6-1 over the AZL Athletics. "Yo" Adrian Rodriguez was stellar with six innings of shutout, one-hit baseball. He struck out 6 and walked none (although he did hit a batter). Five Reds hitters had multi-hit games, with Jose "Calderon" Siri, Raul "Rasheed" Wallace, and Blake "Caron" Butler each producing three knocks. Wallace and James "Greivous" Vasquez dingered in the 14-hit onslaught. Someone will pitch for the AZL Reds at 10:00 against the AZL Dodgers.
