Louisville played quite the crazy game with Gwinnett and lost in the 13th inning, 4-3. David "Mongo" Holmberg started the game and pitched well (7 IP, 10 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HR). Sam LeCure, Jose De La Torre, and Drew Hayes combined for 4 innings of scoreless relief. Nick Christiani gave up 2 runs in the 13th. Steve "So" Selsky was 3 for 5 with a walk, and Yorman Rodriguez was 2 for 5 with a solo wanger and a walk. Josh Satin and Ramon Cabrera also had 2 hit games with a walk each. Mr. Hand takes the mound at 7:05 EST.
Pensacola made me want to do some back tracking in calling them a "bad team" yesterday with a 4-2 win last evening. It isn't that I think the Wahoos are a bad team. They have quite a few interesting and high ceiling players. When you have the 1A and 1B prospects (Winker and Stephenson) there will always be a lot of hype. However, we also know hype has nothing to do with team records, especially at the minor league level. Plus, I'd bet it is hard concentrate on the game when all you want to do is play on the brand new ping pong table Bubba Watson bought the team. Daniel Wright was outstanding in his start (7 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K). Zack Weiss also picked himself up after a sub par weekend with his third save of the season. He pitched 2 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. That's just dandy. Cam "Cam Bigelow" Maron had the big hit for the Wahoos, a 2-run tallywhacker. Marquez Smith, Ray "Cheech and" Chang, and Sean Buckley had 2 hits on the day. TBD faces off against TBD at 6:35 pm CST.
Daytona lost their game, 3-2, and it wasn't without a lack of scary moments. Nick Travieso started the game, but was removed from the game after being hit by a line drive. He retired the first two batters he faced. That really sucks, but I'm going to leave an anecdote for the Naughty Nick haters. Travieso's ERA now sits at 2.98. Nick Routt took over and pitched 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K. Joe Mantoni and Alejandro Chacin both pitched scoreless innings. Junior Felix Arias hit a solo dinger, but that was about it for the offense. Amir Garrett starts tonight at 7:05 EST.
Dayton beat the Beloit Snappers, 9-7. Wyatt Strahan got roughed up in his start (6 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 1 HR). Brian "Deer" Hunter pitched an inning of scoreless relief. Jimmy Pickens went 2 for 4 with a 2-run wanger. Ronald "Muy" Bueno, Luis Gonzalez, Paul Kronenfeld, and Brian "Beef" O'Grady all had 2 hits in the game. In all, the Dragons had 12 hits and 5 walks. Awesome. Morillo pitches tonight at 7:05 pm EST.
