Farmers Only: Weekend Harvest 5/1-5/3

Lots of wins but some bad pitching sprinkled in.

Louisville Bats

The Bats had quite the successful weekend beating the Buffalo Bisons in two out of the three games.  It was almost a sweep but the bullpen blew a two run lead on Sunday.

Friday night, the offense broke out in a big way with the Bats winning 9-7.  The only position player not to reach base was Eugenio "Borez" Suarez who was 0 for 5.  Irving "Foo Foo" Falu hit a solo home run and Ivan De "Call Me" Jesus and Bryson Smith had two RBI.  Five Louisville players had two hits and Louisville had 13 hits overall.  Matt Magill recorded the win, but was not very good on the night going 5.0 innings giving up 4 earned runs, 4 walks, and 3 strikeouts.

Saturday, the Bats tallied another win with a 5-3 victory.  Raisel "Raise Hell" Iglesias pitched 7 innings giving up 4 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts.  Reports say he was generating a lot of ground balls.  It is his first win of the season.  Sam LeCure pitched two scoreless innings with a strikeout.  The bottom of the order carried the Reds as Chris Dominguez hit a two run dinger, Kyle Skipworth had two doubles, and Jermaine Curtis was 3 for 4. Irving "Poo Poo" Falu was also 2 for 3 with a walk.  All four of these hitters were hitting 6,7,8, and 9th in the order.

Sunday, the Bats fell 5-3 even though they were leading 2-0 in the eighth inning.  Mongo finally turned in a good start, even if it was the most Mongo start ever (6 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 0 K), and the Hand Adcock connection blew the game in the last two innings. LaMarre, Suarez, Yorman, Ramon Cabrera, and Falu all had two hits.  In total the Bats had 11 hits, 5 walks, and scraped together 2 runs.  Barf.

Louisville will play on Monday against the Iron Pigs at 6:35 PM EST.

Pensacola Blue Wahoos

Unlike the Bats, Pensacola would drop 2 out of 3 games to the Jackson Generals.

Friday, in an 8-3 loss, Robert Stephenson got the start and was oh so awful.  He only completed 0.2 of an inning, giving up 3 hits, 6 earned runs, 4 walks, a strikeout, and he gave up a wanger.  His early season ERA is 8.31, and I think there is something wrong with him.  Jesse Winker was 1 for 4 with a 2 run double.  Juan Perez and Marquez Smith both had 2 hits.

Saturday, again, the Wahoos would suffer from poor starting pitching in a 7-4 loss. Daniel "Can't Be" Wright at least pitched 3 innings more than Stephenson (3.2 IP, 7 H, 6 ER 2 BB, 3 K) so it saved the bullpen a teensy bit.  Chad Rogers and Kyle "Mister" McMyne had scoreless appearances from the pen.  Ryan Wright! had 3 walks, Juan Perez was 2 for 5 with a triple and 2 RBI, Ray Chang and Beau "F***" Me Like An" Amaral had 3 hits with a double and RBI.

Sunday, the Bats off the schnide due to some nifty starting pitching, 5-1.  Josh "Boring Name" Smith showed you how to pitch with a low ceiling throwing 7 scoreless with no walks and 8 strikeouts.  Kyle McMyne had another scoreless inning.  His ERA on the season is 0.79. Ryan Wright had another walk and a RBI single during a 1 for 3 day.  Marques Smith and Kyle Waldrop had 3 hits games.  Waldrop also had a double and 2 RBI.

Pensacola will play Jackson today at 11:05 am CST.

Daytona Tortugas

The first order of business on Friday was the completion of a suspended game due to rain from April 11th.  The Tortugas eventually won in the bottom of the 10th in walk off fashion 3-2.  One thing of note is that Amir Garrett started the game back in April and pitched 2.2 scoreless innings with no walks and 5 strikeouts. Barrett Astin started the game back up and pitched 5 scoreless giving up 3 hits, 1 walk and striking out 3.  Alex "The Great" Blandino was 3 for 5, and Phillip "Oh My God I Love Him" Ervin hit the 2 run walkoff dinger in the 10th.  Yesssssssss.

In a shortened 7th inning affair, Daytona fell to Brevard County 5-1.  General Jackson Stephens didn't have his best stuff (5 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 K) and took the loss, while Blaine Howell pitched 2 scoreless innings out of the pen.  Sebastian "Bach" Elizalde had a RBI single and that was about it.

Saturday, while playing a whole big boy sized game, the Dragonas won 6-4.  Nick Travieso pitched 4.2 innings giving up 5 hits, 2 earned runs, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts.  He also surrendered 1 home run.  Jimmy Moran and Zack Weiss had scoreless appearances out of the pen.  El'Hajji did not.  Alex Blandino and Sebastian Elizalde were both 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.

Sunday, the Tortugas beat the Manatees in 10 innings 2-1.  Sweaty Sal Romano pitch 6 innings giving up only 1 run, 3 walks, and striking out 5. Nolan Becker, Jimmy "Get A Brain" Moran, and Evan "Piano Man" Mitchell combined for final 4 scoreless innings.  Sebastian Elizalde had a RBI double and scored a run, and Joe Hudson and Carlton Daal had two hit games.

Amir Garrett gets the start tonight at 6:30 PM EST.

Dayton Dragons

Dayton played the Great Lake Loons this weekend and took 2 out of 3 games.

It all started Friday with a 6-2 win.  Mark Armstrong piched 6 scoreless innings giving up 2 walks and a 5 strikeouts. Wendell Soto was 1 for 1 with 3 walks and Brian "Beef" O'Grady was 4 for 5 with a run scored. Ty Washington, Narciso "I'm Not A" Crook, and Jonathon Reynoso had 2 hit games.

Saturday was not a fun day with a 9-3 loss.  Tyler "Popping" Mahle got roughed up in 4 innings (7 H, 7 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 2 HR). Jeremy "Evil" Kivel finished out this putrid game with 2 scoreless innings, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.  Luis Gonzalez had a two hit game.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sunday, the Dragons would score 2 runs in the top of the 9th and barely hold on in the bottom frame to win 4-3. Wyatt "Derp" Strahan pitched 5 innings or 1 run ball, giving up 3 walks and 6 strikeouts.  Brennan "San" Bernardino pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in relief.  Gavin LaValley had a big game going 2 for 4 with a double, his first long ball of the season, a RBI, and 2 runs scored. Garrett "More like Boreware" Boulware was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.

Tejay Antone pitches tonight at 7:00 pm EST.
