Only the National League Division Series will be featured today, but the games are big ones: Each of the Cubs and Mets will look to force their foes out of the postseason, hoping to do so in front of home crowds.
The Cubs and Cardinals kick off the first game at 4:37pm EDT. Jason Hammel will get the start for the home team at the friendly confines, while Mike Matheny and the Cardinals will turn to resident ace John Lackey on three days rest. Obviously, most everyone that pitches for the Cardinals will be available today, because if the Redbirds can't keep the Baby Bears from depositing their hurlers offerings into the seats, they'll be calling it a season after just 9 more innings.
In the night cap, Clayton Kershaw will do everything he can to end his five-game postseason losing streak (and also buck the #narrative) when he and the Dodgers take on Steven Matz and the Mets. Personally, I think I prefer the Mets in this series in general, but the thought of all the hawt takes if Kershaw loses this elimination game is just too much to stomach.
Most importantly, it is "Potential Cardinals Postseason Elimination Day," so celebrate appropriately, Red Reporters.
