"MLB" Mark Sheldon talks up Jose Mijares
The Reds snatched the lefty reliever with a minor-league deal last month. Sheldon draws parallels to the smart under-the-radar acquisitions in recent years of Manny Parra and Alfredo Simon.
I'm sympathetic to this outlook. Mijares was a useful left-handed reliever as recently as 2013. He signed a minor-league deal with the Red Sox last season, but he opted out in March and didn't pitch professionally again all season for whatever reason. He did pitch really well in the Venezuelan Winter League though, so who knows what's up.
I suspect he has a case of being a left-handed reliever. A few bad weeks can ruin an entire season's worth of numbers, so maybe he just wasn't feeling it in 2014. Either way, the Reds got him cheap and he has always struck out a ton of hitters, and that's my favorite way to build a bullpen.
We used to make some kind of joke about Dontrelle Willis, but I forget what it is
He signed a minor-league deal with the Brewers and will be invited to their major-league camp. Do you know how old Dontrelle Willis is? Guess!
MLBTR is reporting that the Braves are eyeballin' Jonny Gomes
I would love for the big lug to come back to Cincinnati, but with Marlon Byrd in the fold the Reds really don't need a right-handed hitting OF. They do, however, still need a hard son of a bitch.
If you are a Reds fan (you probably are!) and you have disposable income (if you are SBN's target audience, you do!)
you can bid on this. I have nothing more to say about this.
