Alfredo Simon v. Tanner Roark

COMPLETE COVERAGE >

That day off was necessary. I think it's allowed us all a minute to breathe and collect our thoughts. When you have 6 games to basically decide how the rest of your season should go, and you go 0-6 in those games, it certainly takes some of the pressure off as a fan. At this point, it'd be unrealistic for me to expect to be watching playoff baseball at GABP this year, and maybe that's a good thing.

That said, the Reds have about a week to start the rebuilding process, and maybe if the other teams in their division falter, they can sneak in. I think we're right about the point where the team's record in 2015 matters more than their record in 2014. Which is a tough reality to face, but the sooner we face it, the more fun we'll have following for the rest of the summer.

This weekend should be a good one for baseball, if today is any indication. We have Alfredo Simon on the mound, showcasing for scouts trying to build off of his stellar first half. We saw good Simon when the Reds faced the Nats in Washington, with Simon only surrendering 1 run in his 7 innings of work.

They'll face Tanner Roark, who had a good outing when he faced the Reds earlier this year as well. It's hard to find a starter in this rotation who's been more solid than Roark has, and he'll be a tall ask for the Reds offense who have been sputtering of late.

The Reds lineup is pretty meh tonight, with Skip Schumaker hitting 2nd and Ryan Ludwick hitting 4th.

Oh yeah, this is still going on.

I bet she's pretty bored in there by now. Do the right thing, Reds.

Go Reds! You're my favorite team who may or may not be contending!
