Farmers Only: Jesse Winker to the DL

The night is darkest before the dawn. How's that for crappy optimism?

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

The real big news of today is that Jesse Winker will likely miss the rest of the season due to a torn tendon in his hand/wrist.  I don't know if there is surgery involved with this injury, but it seems highly unlikely.  It sounds like he is just in a cast for immobilization, and is suppose to be out for 2-4 weeks.  There are 5 weeks left in the minor league season.  There could be a chance of rehab and the Reds still sending him to the AFL, but I think that sounds pretty dumb.  If he's hurt let him rest it.  There is no reason to rush him back and hurt himself more for a few minor league at bats.  The sucky part is this will most definitely delay his arrival time to Cincinnati.  5 weeks of ball is 100+ at bats.  This most likely means that a 2015 debut in AAA is out of the picture.  Maybe he'll come back in two weeks?  Here's to hopin'.  On to the games.

Louisville lost like there what sixth in a row?  I have lost count.  They lost to Columbus 8-5.  Josh Smith got the start and delivered a solid 6 innings giving up 7 hits, 3 earned runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.  Unfortunately, the bullpen sucked and gave up 5 runs in 3 innings.  Donnie Murphy did his best at organizational filling by hitting a 2 run dinger in the 2nd inning.  Jason Bourgeois was 4 for 4 with a double and a run scored.  Felix Perez and Neftali Soto both had multi-hit games.  David Holmdiggity will pitch tonight.

Pensacola finally stopped the losing, which is much obliged, with a 8-4 victory over Mobile.  Baby Cueto took the mound and had one of his better starts (7 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 6 K).  Still too many walks.  Shane Dyer pitched a scoreless inning with strikeout.  Yorman Rodriguez got over his 4 K night from the night before by leading off and going 2 for 5 with a double.  Ryan Wright hit 3 singles.  Rossmel "You Smell" Perez had a 2 RBI double with 2 walks.  Kyle Waldrop hit 3 singles, and Seth Mejias-Brean Burrito went 2 for 5 with a double and a RBI.  Juan "Too Tall" Duran went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and a RBI, and Brodie Greene had a single, double, 2 RBI, and a walk.  Every starting position player for the Wahoos had a hit.  Jonathan Moscot pitches tonight.

Bakersfield couldn't follow suit with Pensacola and lost big time 7-1.  Wandy Peralta was ineffective and fooling no one (6 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 2 HR).  El'Hajj "Praise Be To" Muhammad was fooling everyone.  He pitched 2 scoreless innings, walking 1, and striking out 5.  Zach Vincej had a 2 hit game.  Bakersfield has Wednesday off.

Dayton was off.  Sal "Ray" Romano will pitch tonight.

Billings put an absolute smack down on the Ogden Raptors 12-3.  Jacob Moody pitched 1.1 innings in relief for Tejay Antone (2.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K), but unlike Antone he did not give up a run.  Fabian Roman pitched 3 innings of scoreless ball to finish the game.  Corey Thompson lead off the game going 4 for 6 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.  Alex Blandino had a single, double, 2 walks, 2 runs scored, and a RBI in 3 at bats.  Brian "Beef" O'Grady clutched up and hit two sacrifice flies.  He's make Skip proud.  Aristides Aquino had a double, a walk, and a RBI.  Taylor Sparks hit a triple and walked.  Kevin Franklin decided to join the fun going 2 for 5 with a double and a RBI.  Jose "Farting" Duarte went 3 for 5 with a double, 2 runs scored, and a RBI, and Argenis Aldazoro went 3 for 5 with a triple, a 2 run wanger, and 3 RBI.  Lots and lots of runs, which has come to be expected of this Mustangs squad.  Wyatt "Derp" Strahan will pitch tonight.

The AZL Reds tired to win, but fell short to the Angels 9-8.  The other Junior Arias had a rough start (3.2 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K), and the rest of the pitching was meh.  Hector Vargas went 2 for 5 with a double, triple, and 2 runs scored from the lead off position.  Gavin LaValley had a 2 run single.  Reydel Medina went 2 for 5 with a triple and a RBI.  Josciel Veras and Dalton "Boring Name" Carter both had multi hit games.  The Reds play again tonight against the D-Bags.
