Reds option Cingrani to AAA, call up Jumbo Diaz

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

A little bullpen tweak for the Reds before their series with the Blue Jays.

Diaz has a 1.35 ERA through 33 1/3 innings so far, and has 18 saves as the Bats' closer up to this point in the year. He'll be a 30-year-old rookie, and has been bouncing around the minors since 2002. At 6'4" and 315 pounds, he's the biggest current Red by a long shot, and is probably up in the Calvin Pickering class for largest Red ever.

I'm excited to see what he can do in the big leagues, and if anything, he'll give the bullpen a break. This year was his first spring training with the Reds, and got nothing but rave reviews there.

This move also sees Tony Cingrani move back down to AAA, which tells us that the bullpen experiment didn't really work with him this time around. He'll be able to pitch every 5th day in Louisville, and work on his secondary pitches and control, which is what's got him into trouble so far this year.

What do you think of the move?
