Farmers' Only: Noo Hoos and Who's New

In a time of change in the minor league system, Amir Garret is working on one of his own. A changeup. The pitch.

The Bats were off on Thursday. They still managed to give up a couple runs, though. Brett Marshall will continue his comeback trail at 7:05 at the Gwinnet Infant Braves on Friday.

The new-look 'hoos put it to the Huntsville Stars, beating the Alabamans 7-2. I had no idea Huntsville was in Alabama, sounded like Mississippi to me.

Danny Corcino tip-toed around for a win, going 6IP, 6H, 2ER, 4BB, 2K. The Carloses Gonzalez and Contreras combined for 2IP, 1H, 2K and a whole lot of zeroes to pull down the win.

Yorman led off, going 1-4 with a CS. Ryan Wright batted second and went 0-4. Winker done winked, going 0-2 with 2BB and Crash Mejias-Brean went 1-2 with the pair of bases on balls. Waldrop also went 1-4, but the real star of the game was Rossmel "We all smell!" Perez, who went 2-4 with a double and a dinger. The 24-year-old lefty-batting catcher from Venezuela is at .333/.378/.447 this year in the heavy air of Pensacola, which is...intriguing. Homeboy was in the Arizona system through 2013 and hasn't hit like this since he was 17, but it's nice to have some catcher depth with Tucker Barnhart struggling in AAA. Anyone know what his defense looks like?

The Blue Wahoos host the Stars again on Friday, where Jon "Gopper" Moscot will face someone or another from Huntsville at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Extra-inning games should be illegal on the West Coast. I mean it. Any player who ties the game in the bottom of the ninth should be shot. Or at least they should play first-to-four-runs. That said, Matt Olson of the Stockton Ports had himself a game, going 5-6 with a double and two home runs, including the walkoff to lead off the top of the 11th. The Ports won 8-7.

For scoring seven runs, the Blaze' bats were weirdly quiet. Most of 'em came off of a grand slam by David "Vive la" Vidal, though Yovan Gonzalez went 2-3 in part-time action and Beau Amaral went 2-4. Drew Cisco had a Wangy game, going 6IP, 9H, 4R, 2ER, 0BB, 3K. No other pitcher acquitted himself remarkably.

Also, MiLB uses the old Gameday, which is neat. Bakersfield will ruin more nights on Friday, when "Willy" Wandy Peralta and the Blaze look to cook Chris Lamb and the Ports in Stockton at 10:05 p.m. ET.

They're going Ga-Ga for Amir Garrett down in Dayton, as the lefty went 6IP, 2H, 1ER, 2BB, 6K on Thursday. That one run was killer, though, as it wouldn't be matched until the Dayton ninth and the game wouldn't be won until Joe Hudson drove in 2 in the 12th to beat the Great Lakes Loons 4-2. Hudson went 2-5 with an SB, Jamodrick Magruder went 1-3 as a late-game sub, and Tanner "Rowdy" Rahier went 2-4 with a double, a walk, and a stolen base.

Danny Piggott also went 2-4 with a double and a stolen base, and Phil Ervin went 1-5 with a Magic-maker. Tanner Rahier is worth some note, as he's going .271/.324/.414 as a 20-year-old at third base. Friday will see the Loons' Bird host a Dayton pitcher-to-be-named later at 7:05 p.m. ET, as Dayton has had two extra-inning games in a row and must have a gassed bullpen.

It was a shootout in Helena, which is more of an oil town that has no history of cattle or cattle violence. But I digress, the Billings Mustangs beat the Hellenes down hard, winning 16-7. "Hoary" Cory Thompson went 4-6 with a double and an SB, Daniel "Sean de" Paula went 4-6 with 2HR and a SB, Aristides "Fornicating" Aquino "Excrement" went 3-6 with a 2b and an HR, Brian "Beef" O'Grady went 2-4 with two doubles and a walk, Garrett "Linebacker" Boulware went 2-4, Alex "Foxy" Greer went 3-5, and Nick "Needs Gelato" Benedetto, who is listed at 6'0, 150lbs, went 1-3 with 2BB and 2SB. There were 20 Billings hits overall, so whoowee. The Lil' Brewers pitching might just suck, though.

Luke "the Mook" Moran had it rough, going 5IP, 6H, 5ER, 3BB, 5K. Fabian "Johnson" Roman also got nicked up for 2ER in 2IP, but Brian "Not an Outfielder" Hunter danced around 2H and 1BB for a scoreless inning and Brennan "Raj" Bernadino was actually competent for his inning giving up only one walk and striking out two. Must've been something in the air in Helena that night.

Anyways, the Mustangs and Brewers will face off again at 9:05 p.m. ET on Friday, as someone or another from Billings will take on Josh "Not Now But" Uhen.
