Bats and Wahoos, not so much...

RIGGLEMAN!
RIGGLEMAN!
USA TODAY Sports
  • Louisville was trampled by the Bison, falling 17-5. Chad Reineke was bad Reineke, getting rocked for 7 runs in less than 2 innings before getting pulled. Then pretty much all the other pitchers were bad too, issuing 10 walks and 20 hits in 8 innings. Yeesh. If there's a silver lining, it was made of #grit. Skip Schumaker, on his first rehab assignment, went 3-4 with a pair of doubles while playing center field. Ruben Gotay and Thomas Neal each reached base thrice, but yeah, this was a game to forget. Up next: Lighten Up, [Jeff] Francis (3-2, 2.45) faces Buffalo at 6:05.

  • Pensacola snatched defeat from the sloppy jaws of victory, losing to Mississippi 9-6. Michael Lorenzen was decent in 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, with a walk and 3 strikeouts. Drew Hayes followed with 2 hitless innings. Unfortunately, the rest of the pitchers. Fabian Williamson recorded exactly zero outs and gave up 4 runs, which would put his game-ERA at infinity. That's not what you want your ERA to be. Infinity is how much cooler Joey Votto is than you. Not an ERA you want. Sweaty Jamie Walczak and Danny Renken didn't help either, giving up 3 more runs to blow the game after the Wahoos carried a 4-2 lead into the eighth. Beau Amaral led the way on offense, going 1-3 with 2 runs and 2 walks, and nobody had more than one hit. Up next: Off deezy

  • Bakersfield moved into first place with a 6-2 win over Stockton. Marquez Smith assaulted the Ports pitchers, honking a pair of wangdazzlers to go along with 2 walks and 4 RBI. Kyle Waldop also went yard, his second of the year. Wandy Peralta had the LOB gods on his side, allowing just a single run on 7 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings. He struck out 5. Juan "Billy Hamilton" Silva stole his 16th base of the year. Damn. Up next: James Allen (2-1, 4.55) starts against Stockton at 10:15.

  • Dayton doubled up the Lugnuts, 8-4, for their fifth straight win to move into first place as well. Ismael Guillon was effectively-ish wild, allowing 3R/2ER on just 2 hits in 5 innings, walking 4 and striking out 6. All 4 walks came in the second inning, and a Jamodrick McGruder error didn't help matters. "Welcome to Jamodrick" did steal a base and score, so that's kinda jam, but it was Jeff "Peanut Butter" Gelalich time with a baseball bat, as the former UCLA outfielder went 3-5 with 2 RBI and a run. 22-year-old Sebastian Elizalde, previously of the Mexican League, continued to kill the ball, going 2-3 with a bases-clearing double, a walk, and his 9th SB of the year. Phil Ervin had a very 2013-type day, going 2-3 with 2 doubles and a walk. Tanner Rahier and Joe Hudson each added two hits as well. Solid win. Up next: Amir Garrett (0-2, 5.63) against Lansing at 7.
