Louisville Bats
On Friday night, the Bats got their offense together beating the Syracuse Chiefs 10-7. Jason Bourgeois (3 for 5, 2 2B, 3 R, 2 RBI) and Chris Nelson (3 for 4, 1 wB)1 BB, 2 RBI) were the stars of the game. Ruben Gotay also went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and a walk. Tucker Barnhart, who is now with the Reds after the Mesoraco injury, went 2 for 3 with a double, RBI, and a walk before being pulled from the game. Josh Smith had a decent start going 5 innings, giving up 2 ER, with 2 K, and 0 walks. He did give up 8 hits in those five innings, though. Unfortunately, Curtis Partch couldn't patch together a good inning. He gave up 3 ER in 0.2 innings. Jumbo Diaz recorded the save with 2 K.
On Saturday, the Bats traveled up to Buffalo and got stomped 6-2. Tim Crabbe was bad Crabbe. He went 4.1 innings giving up 5 ER with no strikeouts. The offense was poopy. Really, this whole game just sucked. Nick Schmidt and Ryan Dennick did have scoreless innings in relief. Woop woop.
Sunday, the Bats won a close game against the Bisons 2-1. Chien-Ming Weiner was excellent pitching 8 innings giving up 1 earned run and 6 strikeouts. Maybe he's starting to get the lead out of his pencil. Hopefully, he can continue to rise to the situation. There are no bones about it, Wang needed to improve his pitching. I have no idea how the Bats didn't blow this game wide open. The Bisons allowed 12 free passes, but the Bats only scored 2 runs. Max Ramirez and Thomas Neal had the big RBI singles in the 9th. The Bats. Chad Reineke will take the mound against the Bisons tomorrow at 7:00 pm.
Pensacola Blue Wahoos
Pensacola played the Braves AA team from Mississippi this weekend and fared better than the top ball club. Friday, the Wahoos defeated some asshole by the name of Mike Minor, who was on my fantasy team a few years ago and was horrible. He’s an asshole. The Wahoos hit four home runs off of him. Bryan Anderson hit two and had 3 RBI. Travis Mattair and Juan Silverio also joined in the fun. Lil Cueto was wild, but kept the runs off the board. He went 6.2 innings, giving up 1 ER, with 4 BB, and 2 K. Shane Dyer picked up the save with 1.1 IP and 3 K.
The Mississippi Braves would get their revenge on Saturday winning 6-3. Robert Stephenson was better, but Homer Bailey’d his way to a mediocre night. He went 6 innings, giving up 3 ER on 3 solo chuck wagons. He did strike out 8 Braves and only walked 2. The bullpen wasn’t much better. Steve So Selsky hit a double. Wah to the rest.
The Wahoos were all Wahoo! on Sunday when they beat the Braves 2-0 behind a sterling performance by Jonathan Soloman Moscot. Seriously, his middle name is Soloman. That's pretty sweet. Moscot pitched 8 innings of 3 hit ball, not giving up a run, with 4 K and 1 BB. He's pretty good. I like him. The Wahoo offense was aided by 2 Braves errors, but Steve So Selsky I Could Cry had a single, 2 walks, and an RBI. Beau Amaral also had a double and a run scored. The Walczak had another save with a strikeout. The Wahoos will play again tomorrow against Mississippi. Michael Lorenzen will get the start at 6:30 CST.
Bakersfield Blaze
This weekend the Bakersfield Blaze took on the San Jose Stoopy Heads. Friday, San Jose would win by a score of 5-3. Drew Cisco got the start and was very meh. He went 6 innings giving up 6 hits, 3 ER, 3 BB, and 3 K. He’s got to do better, and his control hasn’t been very Cisco like. Kyle Waldrop was 3 for 4. Seth MissesHisWinker-Brean had a nice little night with two walks. SS Zach Vincej was 2 for 3 with a walk. The Blaze did not hit an extra base hit.
Bakersfield decided that redemption was spelled S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y when they beat the San Jose Stoopy Heads 6-3 in 11 innings. Mike Dennhardt got the start going 6 innings with 1 ER, 4 H, 6 K, and 2 BB. The bullpen was excellent. The Blaze got 2.2 innings from Jimmy Moran! with 3 K. Carlos Gonzalez picked up the save and had 2 K in his inning pitched. Seth Mejias-Brean went 2 for 5 with a RBI and a walk. My best friend, Juan Silva led off the game and went 2 for 4, a double, 2 runs scored, and a walk. Ryan Wright continues to whisper sweet nothings into KMiB’s ear with a 2 for 5, double, 2 runs, 2 RBI, and a walk. Chris Berset was also 3 for 4.
Sunday was…. Oh… Ben Lively…. you are so awesome…. I…. uhm…. yeah. Lively pitched 6 innings, scattering 5 hits, 0 walks, and 7 strikeouts. His season ERA is 0.31. That is absurd. I’m swooning so hard. Oh, the Blaze won 10-2, so there was some good offense, too. Everyone had their contributions, and the Blaze took 9 walks as a team. Read the box score for the whole report. Mejias-Brean is continuing to get on base at a freakish pace, walking two more times. Pretty much all your favorite players had big days. Bakersfield will play again tomorrow against Stockton at 7:15 pm PST. Peralta will be on the bump.
Dayton Dragons
Dayton was all WOOOOOOOOOO this weekend sweeping the Great Lakes Loons in three games. They started the domination on Friday winning 10-2. Naughty Nick Travieso continued his naughty streak. He pitched 5 innings of shutout ball, with 6 K and 1 BB. His season ERA is sitting pretty at 1.23. The offense was really good. Our good buddy Phil Ervin went 2 for 5 with a double, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Sean Buckley went 2 for 6 with 3 RBI. Jeff Gelalich walked 3 times.
Saturday, Dayton won 6-1. Daniel Wright went 6 innings pitched with 1 ER and 2 K. Joel Bender, Evan Mitchell, and Scott Brattvet all pitched scoreless innings in relief. Carlton Daal went 3 for 5 with a run scored. Sebastian Elizalde continued his great start to the year with a 2 for 3 day. He scored a run, had a RBI, and walked twice.
Dayton completed the sweep on Sunday with a score of 3-1. Sweaty Sal Romano took the start and was really good. He pitched 5 shutout innings, working around 2 hits, 3 walks, but striking out 9 Loons. Sebastian Elizalde played CF, again, and had 3 walks. Daniel Mateo hit a solo dinger. Ismael Guillon will be on the hill tomorrow at 7:00 pm EST against Lansing.
