  • Louisville got the win on Wednesday 4-1. None of the guys we would consider "prospects" did much in the game, rather, it was won by the wily veterans. Jeff Francis started where he left off, pitching 6 innings, giving up an earned run, and striking out 6 batters. If he keeps it up, he could be a useful piece in case of injury, or he could be a lefty out of the pen if Marshall never comes back. I hope Marshall comes back. Chris Nelson decided to take his talents to Louisville and impressed. He hit a grand slam in the 7th, which sealed the deal for the Bats. It was the only extra base hit of the day for the Bats. At least it was a good one. The Corkster went 2 for 3, showing Barney how it's done. Ryan Dennick and Jumbo Shrimp both had good outings in relief and did not give up a run. Louisville will have their Opening Night against the Clippers tonight at 6:35 EST.
  • Pensacola either had too much fun on their off day, or they just wanted to let the other team feel good for a change. They lost to Huntsville 4-5. Carlos Contreras was wild in this one, but still had his strike out pitch working. He gave up 2 earned runs on 2 hits in 4 innings. He had 6 strikeouts, but the problem was the walks. He gave up 4 free passes, which I will assume is what limited him to the four innings. The relief pitching was poor, giving up another 3 earned runs. The Walczak pitched .2 scoreless with a strikeout. The offense was decent. Yorman Rodriguez went 2 for 5 with a run scored. Lutzwurst went 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored. Bryan Anderson hit a two run Mesobomb. Devin Lohman and Juan Silverio also had two hits. They play again at 6:30 CST. Corcino will look to impress us, again.
  • Bakersfield just can't be contained as they beat Stockton 8-6. The offense is so good and it's no surprise when I say that Jesse Winker and Seth Mejias-Brean had a lot to do with it. Winker went 2 for 4 with a double, 2 RBI's, and a walk. Brean continues to refried his craft going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's and 2 walks. Kyle Waldrop only had one hit and his average dropped below .500. DH John Tolisano had a 2 run bopper, and Chris Berset a solo shot. Saturday Night Cisco Fever took the rubber, and gave a decent performance. He was a little wild, though. Cisco gave up 1 earned run over 5 innings. He scattered 5 hits, with 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Brooks Pinckard and Carlos Gonzalez had scoreless innings, but the bullpen didn't look very solid. They play again at 7:00 PST against San Jose. Dennhardt, and his 6.75 ERA, will take the mound.
  • Dayton got another very solid performance from Naughty Nick Travieso, winning 4-1. He went 5 innings, giving up 1 earned run on 3 hits. He walked 1 and struck out 6. It's good to see him starting the season off strong. Zack Weiss followed him in relief and struck out 3 in 1.2 innings. The pitching was bery bery good. Charlie Scrabbles' boyfriend, Jam Jam Bigelow, led off the game for some reason. He had a hit, and isn't worth mentioning in this paragraph, but I like doing it. Phillip Ervin showed some life when he hit an RBI double, but that's it. Sebastian Elizalde had 2 walks. Sean Buckley went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Jeff Gelaich had a 2 run single. The story was the pitching, not really the hitting They face play again at Peoria at 7:30 EST.
