This Day in Reds History: Jack Hannahan is born in St. Paul

On this day in 1884, the National League owners reached an agreement to supply a separate bench to each team during ballgames. The owners hoped to reduce the amount of interaction between the players of opposing teams.


On this day in 1968, former Red Brian Hunter was born in Torrance, CA. Hunter had a nine-year career as a back-up first baseman. He appeared in 49 games for the Reds across the 1994 and '95 seasons.

Also on this day in 1968, former Red Giovanni Carrara was born in El Tigre, Venezuela. He started a total of 10 games for the Reds in 1996 and '97 combined.


On this day in 1980, Jack Hannahan was born in St. Paul, MN.


On this day in 1995, the Reds signed right-handed reliever Brendan Donnelly. He was originally drafted by the White Sox in 1992. The Reds were his third big league organization. He would have minor league stints with three more organizations before making his major league debut with the Angels in 2002. Donnelly had a very good run with the Angels, including a tremendous season in 2003 when he made the all-star team. He would make stops with four more major league teams before retiring in March of 2011.
