Reds to acquire Marlon Byrd

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Multiple outlets are reporting that the Reds are on the verge of acquiring outfielder Marlon Byrd from the Phillies.

Byrd is 37 years old, and has played for 5 teams in the last 3 years. He's a guy the Reds have been linked with for a long time, so it's not surprising they'd have interest, but it's hard to imagine he's going to be valuable at his age to fix the Reds woes in LF. As the esteemed Dr. Scrabbles opined in this space just this morning, trading for Marlon Byrd is kind of a zero-sum scenario.

Word is that Ben Lively would be going the other way in the deal, which just plain sucks. More on this as we have it.
