The 40-man roster deadline is tomorrow... where do the Reds stand?

David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

The Reds' 40-man roster stands at 38 right now, with the deadline to secure players going into the Rule 5 draft tomorrow. Here's what we're working with.

Starting Pitchers: Dylan Axelrod, Homer Bailey, Tony Cingrani, Daniel Corcino, Johnny Cueto, Ismael Guillon, David Holmberg, Raisel Iglesias, Mat Latos, Mike Leake, Alfredo Simon (11)

11 seems like a lot here, but with a team with this kind of depth, it's not necessarily surprising. Guillon is kind of an interesting case, as a lot have dismissed his prospect status, and it's still unlikely he'll be taken in the Rule 5 draft, but he's there for the time being. It's possible the team could add a Chad Rogers type, but unlikely.

Relief Pitchers: Aroldis Chapman, Carlos Contreras, Ryan Dennick, Jumbo Diaz, J.J. Hoover, Sam LeCure, Sean Marshall, Logan Ondrusek, Manny Parra, Curtis Partch, Pedro Villarreal (11)

This might be where we see some movement between now and tomorrow. I'm not sure what the Reds' plans are for guys like Contrereas, Dennick, Villarreal, and Partch, but I'm not sure all of them need roster spots. You might see a Kyle McMyne or Drew Hayes added here.

Catchers: Tucker Barnhart, Devin Mesoraco, Brayan Pena (3)

This is fine. No changes here.

Infielders: Zack Cozart, Todd Frazier, Donald Lutz, Kristopher Negron, Brandon Phillips, Joey Votto (6)

This would be a fine time for the Reds to decide if they're going to give Donald Lutz a shot here. Negron is the only other non-regular here, and I can see the Reds keeping him around after the year he had last year to try and earn a bench spot.

Outfielders: Jason Bourgeois, Jay Bruce, Juan Duran, Billy Hamilton, Chris Heisey, Yorman Rodriguez, Skip Schumaker (7)

What is Bourgeois still doing on this roster? Everyone else is cool, although the team might be running out of patience with Duran.

What do you think?
