I know what you're thinking. Was there even a Red to wear #71? There sure was, and he's getting remembered today.
1. Juan Cerros (0.0 WAR)
Juan Cerros. You may remember Juan from his brief stint as a September callup in 2003. You may remember him as a Louisville Bat, where he pitched to the tune of a 2.89 ERA in 55 appearances in that 2003 season. You may even remember him being drafted in the 2002 Minor League Rule 5 draft, if you're a total nerd.
Cerros was signed out of Mexico and came up through the Mets system, before the Reds took him in the minor league Rule 5. He spent two years in the Reds system in total, with most of that coming in Louisville. He got his cup of coffee in 2003, where he made 11 appearances, all but one of them coming in losses. He's currently sitting on a 6 inning scoreless streak, including 3 shutout innings in a game against the Cubs (a game where Josh Hall gave up 7 runs). He struck out Sammy Sosa in that game!
After not getting another call in the '04 season, Cerros was claimed in the Rule 5 again, this time by Milwaukee. He never pitched for the Brew Crew, heading to Mexico where he was still pitching as late as last season.
And now you know a little something about Juan Cerros. Happy 71 days until Opening Day, Red Reporters.
