Reds.com: Reinforcements on horizon, 'pen eyes return to '12 form
The bullpen has been Cincinnati's biggest weakness so far in 2013 due to a mix of injuries and general ineffectiveness. Mark Sheldon reports that injured setup men Sean Marshall and Jonathan Broxton could both rejoin the team at the All-Star Break. Marshall, who is the Reds' second best reliever after Aroldis Chapman, has thrown only seven innings this season. There is real cause for concern with Marshall as he has struggled with a shoulder injury. Elbow injuries might lead to Tommy John surgery, but shoulder injuries have a way of turning promising young pitchers like Tommy Hanson into 25 year-old has-beens. Broxton, on the other hand, is recuperating from an elbow injury.
The Hardball Times: The all-Canada team
Who are the best Canadian baseball players in the history of the game? Richard Barbieri offers his answers in a column that's ready in time for Canada Day on the first of July. The two names I expected to see - Fergie Jenkins and Larry Walker - are both on the team. Joey Votto edged out Justin Morneau for the spot at first base. I'm biased of course, but I don't think Votto and Morneau are all that close. I also suspect that Votto will continue to pull away from Morneau as the Twins' first baseman has unfortunately struggled with injuries in recent years. Finally, I know that Baseball-Reference's neutralized batting tool isn't perfect, but Terry Puhl's batting line is equivalent to .304/.374/.419 in a 750-run environment.
FOX19: George Foster Baseball Boot Camp building character in local kids
The Reds Hall of Famer hopes to spread the value of responsibility and integrity through his baseball camp in Blue Ash. Campers come from both military families and the inner-city.
Cincinnati.com: Corky Miller Quiz
How well do you know the man, the myth, the legend that is Corky Miller? I scored a nine out of 10, but I suspect several Red Reporters will score a perfect 10. Hat-tip to Zeldink for the link.
Reds: Texas is not on the west coast
Like our resident California and Colorado posters, Hal McCoy is tired of hearing West division teams described as "west coast". McCoy also looks at the Reds' struggles on the road trip.
Fangraphs: Breaking Down the Futures Game Hitting Prospects
Marc Hulet breaks down the world versus North America match-ups at every position for the upcoming Futures Game. Billy Hamilton is the lone Reds' prospect featured, but this is a good time to familiarize yourself with some of the game's other top farmhands.
