Farmers Only: Coachella Hangover Edition

I didn't write this last night because I fell asleep at 7

USA TODAY Sports
  • Louisville lost the series opener to Columbus, 4-1. Scott "Oh let the sun beat down upon my face" Kazmir held the Bats to 1 unearned run in 5 innings in his AAA rehab start, and looked pretty good. Armando Galarraga started for the good guys, but went just 3.2 innings, giving up a run himself, this one earned. Nick Christiani relieved Galarraga and the Clippers promptly relieved themselves all over poor Nick, who gave up the remaining 3 runs. No XBH for the Bats, but Jason Donald "led" the offense with 2 singles. Hmm. Up next: 2006 Rockies first-round draft pick Greg Reynolds (1-0, 2.45) faces Columbus at 6:35.
  • Pensacola lost a pitcher's duel, 1-0, after Jacksonville jacked a solo junior mint in the top of the 11th to win it. Daniel Renken tossed 5 2/3 scoreless frames, walking 3 and striking out 2 to continue his strong start to the year (12.2 IP, 1 ER), but settled for a no-decision. The Wahoo offense kept riding the suck-train to crapville, mustering a puny 5 hits in 11 innings. There are at least 6 regulars with batting averages of .200 or under. Yeesh. The pitching has been the tits*, though, so there's that. Up next: Josh Smith (0-2, 17.47) looks to lower his ERA a bit against Jacksonville at 8.

    *Does not include Josh Smith
  • Bakersfield won their second game of the year! They beat the Inland Empire David Lynches 5-1 behind a 2-run honkerdoodle from Yorman Rodriguez, who also had a double. Ryan Wright also had a good day at the dish, going 2-3 with a triple, a walk, and 2 runs scored. Carlos "Mary, Mary, Quite" Contreras threw 6 very good innings, surrendering just 2 hits and a run while striking out 8 for the second straight game. He's currently the only Blaze starter with an ERA in the single digits, and I think that is stupid. You want low ERAs, not high ones, stupid Blaze starters! The game got kind of messy in the later innings, as a massive dust storm blew through, and I can speak first-hand as to how much that sucks, because I now have about 4 lbs of desert dust in my lungs and sinuses due to those very same high winds blowing dust all throughout the Coachella valley for the last day and a half. Seriously, you guys should see what's coming out of my nose. Angeeh, send help. Up next: Jon Moscot toes the rubber against Inland Empire at 10:15 Cincy time.
  • Dayton had the day off for the Wally Doonestown Family Pheasant Roast and Waterbed Toss. They'll face Lake County at 6:30, sending Wandy Peralta (0-1, 3.00) to the mound.

Other Notes:

-The Reds signed RHP Davide Anselmi to a minor league contract. This wouldn't be exciting except for the fact that he's Italian and was signed out of the Europe Academy, which is the same place they plucked Donald Lutz from a few years back. He's a young'un (born in 1995), so he's a long way off, but I think this is pretty cool.

-Coachella highlights: How to Destroy Angels, Major Lazer, Yeasayer (best show of the festival), Phoenix with special guest R. Kelly (yeah, that was weird), Blur, Jurassic 5, Grimes, and The Faint. My body hates me. It was a ton of fun. You all should come next year. Did I mention I went to Coachella? I don't know if I've said it enough times.
