The trades Walt Jocketty made in the offseason have undoubtedly been critical to the team's success. But the Reds have gotten a few doses of "jilted ex" in facing their former teammates.
Reds vs. traded Reds:
Former player | Team | Games vs. Reds | Statline |
Travis Wood | CHC | 1 | 7.0 IP, 1.29 ERA, 8 K |
Edinson Volquez | SDP | 2 | 12.0 IP, 4.50 ERA, 14 K |
Yonder Alonso | SDP | 8 | 32 PAs, .345/.406/.483 |
Yasmani Grandal | SDP | 5 | 16 PAs, .267/.313/.333 |
Juan Francisco | ATL | 5 | 15 PAs, .133/.133/.533 |

This same pitching match-up happened just a week a go. Bronson pitched well, Wood pitched better, but the latter was a hard-luck loser. Although maybe it's a stretch to call what the Cubs do "luck" at this point.
It's different this time. Wood will take the mound at Great American Ball Park, somewhere he never really got comfortable as a Red (5.30 ERA lifetime, .294/.352/.464 line against).

Bullpen notes:
- Alfredo Simon has been very pitch efficient, if seldom-used, this month. In his two outings (4.1 IP total), he's only needed an average of 4.7 pitches to get each out.
