Farmers Only: Billy's Back, Baby

  • Louisville continued their losing ways, falling 4-2 to the Norfolk Tides. Jeff Francis turned in a decidedly mediocre performance, giving up 4 runs over 7 innings with 6 K's, 1 BB, 9 hits and a wanger. The Bats are in the midst of an ugly tailspin having dropped 8 of their last 9. Dennis Phipps provided all of the Louisville offense when he ran into one and hit a 2-run shot in the 6th inning. That would stand as the only extra-base hit in the game for the Bats. Judge Rhinehart slapped out 3 singles in his 3 at bats. Up Next: Sean Gallagher (1-2, 6.52) will be smashing watermelons tonight at 6:35pm against Joel Pinero and the Norfolk Tides.
  • Pensacola dropped a close one to the Mississippi Braves, losing 3-2 in a 12-inning affair. Mark Serrano got the start (5 IP, 0 ER), and the Wahoos needed 6 pitcher to cover 7 innings. Donnie Joseph threw 2 scoreless innings with 4 K's and a walk, lowering his ERA to 0.56. Didi Gregorius continued his slump, putting up an 0-4 night. His OPS over the last 10 games is a paltry .462. Up Next: Kyle Lotzkar makes his first AA start aginst the Braves at 7:00pm.
  • Bakersfield grounded the Lancaster JetHawks, winning 9-6. Devin Lohman got the party started with a first inning 2-run dinger. Billy Hamilton returned to action, slapping one single in 5 AB's with nary a steal. Herr Lutz had himself a nice night at the dish, going 3-5 with a double, an RBI and (shockingly) a stolen base. Tony Cingrani let 5 runs cross the plate, but only got charged for 1. He notched 8 K's while allowing 3 walks. His ERA over 34 IP is a delicious 0.53, with an 11.91 K/9. Up Next: The Blaze and JetHwaks play the penultimate game of the series at 10:00 pm, starters TBD.
  • Dayton had their game postponed due to rain. Up Next: The Dragons will play a double header tomorrow starting at 6pm. Dan Jensen (1-2, 1.69 ERA, heavy-pencil style mustache) gets the nod in Game 1. I don't know about you, but a double header starting at 6pm sounds like a nice way to spend a Tuesday night.
