Farmers Only: Mama Said There'd be Days Like This

  • Louisville lost to the Rochester Red Wings, 4-1. It was a tough-luck loss for Chad Reineke, who hurled a dandy of a game (5 IP, 8 K, 1 BB), but was let down big time by his defense. The first Red Wings run scored on a failed pick-off attempt by Suck It Dioner in the first inning, and a fly ball lost in the lights in the 5th allowed 2 base runners to scamper home. Not a single extra-base hit was tallied by the Bats last night, and only Felix Perez had a multi-hit game. Former Louisville Bat (and object of a certain poster's desire), Matt Maloney pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Willy Harris went 0-4, natch. Up Next: Brett Tomko (0-4, 3.55 ERA) takes the mound against the Red Wings at 7:05pm.
  • Pensacola had the day off. Up Next: The Wahoos start a five-game set against the Jacksonville Suns today at 7:35pm. Jim Riggleman is keeping things close to the vest, and hasn't announced a starter.
  • Bakersfield fell to the Stockton Ports, 5-4. After playing two whole games on Tuesday without a stolen base, Billy Hamilton got it back in gear, swiping 3 sacks in 3 attempts. Mr. Quix showed that he need not swing the bat to cause havoc on the basepaths, as was 0-2 with 2 BBs. Theo Bowe kept his consecutive games with a HR streak alive at 2 when he doinked a doodle in the 7th inning. Bryson Smith had a nice day at the old ball orchard, going 2-4 with a dinger. The former Gator has been impressive in his first 60 professional games, OPS'ing .952 over three levels. Cali League pitcher of the week, Chad Rogers got the start for the Blaze and threw 5 innings of 2-run ball (4 K, 2 BB). Up Next: The Blaze take a trip to Lake Elisnore to face the Storm. Josh Smith (1-4, 5.71 ERA) will get the ball.
  • Dayton lost 4-1 to the Bowling Green Hot Rods. The Dragons couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat. As a team, their line is a weak wristed .226/.292/.317 (And the pitchers don't even bat!). Juan Perez had a pretty good night, going 2-4 with a triple. Stalin "Koba" Gerson pitched well, throwing 5 scoreless innings. Michael Dennhardt came in and mucked it all up, giving up 3 runs in the 6th. Up Next: The Dragons and Hot Rods face off again at 7:35pm. Someone named Johnson makes his first start for Dayton. I'm not really sure who that is, as he is not listed on the Dragons' roster or the transaction list.
