Farmers Only: Only Mother Nature can Contain the Bako Blaze

  • Louisville lost to Nap-Town 5-1 despite a solid start from the aged Brett Tomko in which he tossed 6 innings of 2-run ball, racking up 8 strikeouts and only walking one. Future Hall of Famer™ Mike Costanzo drove in the lone Louisville run, banging a double down the line in the 9th inning. The only other XBH in the game came by way of a double from Danny "Dammit" Dorn. Both Dorn and Costanzo both bat left handed, for those keeping score at home. Shockingly, Ron Mahay did not surrender a run to the 2 batters he faced, and got his ERA down to 5.06. Up Next: The Bats have an off day today before beginning a four game tilt against the Norfolk Tides on Friday.
  • Pensacola lost a close one, falling 6-5 to the Jacksonville Suns. Pedro Villarreal had a rough day at the office, surrendering 5 ER in 5 IP. Newly called-up Wilkin De La Rosa, Drew Hayes and Donnie Joseph kept the Suns at bay, providing 3 scoreless innings of relief before Justin Freeman blew it in the bottom of the 9th. After being held scoreless through the first 5 innings, the Wahoos managed a 4-run rally in the 6th, before tying the game in the top of the 9th. Ryan LaMarre was the only Wahoo with a multi-hit game, going 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Up Next: Pensacola faces off against the Suns in the second of a five game series tonight at 6:35 pm.
  • Bakersfield will have to wait another day to try and get to 10 straight wins, as they were rained out in Stockton. No word yet as to whether there will be a double header today. In other news, the slick looking hats the Blaze have been rocking this year are now available from their team shop.
  • Dayton got bit by the Timber Rattlers, and lost 4-3. The Dragons climbed back from a 3-0 deficit, tying the game in the 5th. The score would hold until the 9th when Jimmy "Get a Brain" Moran gave up a walk off homer to Wisconsin's Greg Hopkins. Stalin Gerson got the start giving up 3 runs (2 earned) over 5 IP. Steve Svelsky was the offensive star of the game for the Dragons, going 2-3 with a double and 2 RBIs. Up Next: Justice French (3-1 2.91 ERA) takes the mound tonight against the Timber Rattlers at 7:35 pm.
