Farmers Only: Is bullpen help on the way?

  • Louisville lost 8-1 to Toledo. Sean Gallagher started the game and gave up 5 runs without making it out of the second inning. Despite the fact that everyone in the big league bullpen is tired (especially if Bronson has a short outing today), could help be on the way? Josh Judy and Nick Christiani pitched two scoreless innings each, and J.J. Hoover pitched a perfect 9th. Ron Mahay gave up 3 runs in 1 1/3, so I hope he isn't the answer. Offensively, the Bats are struggling just as much as the Reds are, as they only collected 3 hits with Chris Valaika driving in the only run. Up next: Chad Reineke starts a new series against Scott Barnes and Columbus, first pitch at 7:05.
  • Daniel Corcino gave up 3 runs in the first, but settled down to give Pensacola a 6-3 win over Mobile. Li'l Cueto went 5 innings, gave up 3 runs total (only 2 earned) and struck out 2 with no walks. The bullpen work was terrific as well, with Mark Serrano (the Serrantula) pitching 2 shutout innings and Clayton Tanner and Donnie Joseph with a shutout inning each. Didi Gregorius went 4-for-5 and Brodie Greene went 3-for-5, giving the Wahoos middle infield a heck of an afternoon. Mike Costanzo hit his 3rd homer of the year, a 3-run shot. Is he going to be the next Red to get an extension? Up next: Tim Crabbe takes on Patrick Corbin and the BayBears at 8:05.
  • Bakersfield played in their first road game of the year in San Jose, and lost 1-0 in a 6-inning affair shortened by rain. Billy Hamilton got one of the Blaze's 3 hits, and stole his 6th base of the year. Chad Rogers went 5 innings, giving up 1 run and striking out 4 to earn the tough luck loss. Up next: Josh Smith takes on Justin Schumer of the Giants, first pitch at 10:05.
  • Dayton lost a pitcher's duel as well, losing 1-0 in a 10 inning marathon in South Bend. Radhames Quezada started and pitched 6 shutout innings, only giving up 2 hits and striking out 5. Ryan Kemp was 6-up, 6-down in relief with 3 punch-outs, but Jim Moran gave up the run in his 2nd inning of work. The offense sucked, so we won't mention them. Up next: Tanner Robles tries to right the shit against John Pedrotty and the Silver Hawks, first pitch at 7:35.
