Bryan Price "in the mix" for Marlins' job

Welp, we can't say we didn't see this one coming. Bryan Price has been the Reds' pitching coach for three seasons now, and he's been instrumental in building one of the best pitching staffs in baseball. Not coincidentally, other teams have taken notice. The Miami Marlins are looking for a new manager after firing baseball's village idiot Ozzie Guillen, and are rumored to be looking at Price for the job, according to Joe Frisaro.

Now, to put things in perspective, Frisaro does say that Mike Redmond is the "strong frontrunner" for the job, while Price is merely "in the mix". So take that for what it's worth, I suppose. Even if the Marlins get their man Redmond, other teams looking to fill managerial vacancies will surely be scratching Price's name onto their short lists.

I put up a statistic like this some time ago during the season, but I think it's worth repeating. Here are season pitching lines for a few selected players:

The entire Reds' pitching staff pitched like a down-ballot Cy Young candidate this season. At the very least, Price is due a goodly amount of credit for that. I would love more than anything for him to stay here in Cincinnati, as he has clearly been instrumental in the maturation of Johnny Cueto, Homer Bailey, Aroldis Chapman, Mat Latos, and so on. I'm sure he has professional aspirations that go beyond the Reds' pitching staff, but I hope very much that Walt Jocketty and Bob Castellini see fit to keep him here by any means necessary.
