With Arroyo getting the early shower last night after just 5 innings and 73 pitches, it appears as though Dusty has his eyes directed exactly where they should be - to the playoffs. Undoubtedly, there are still reasons to try to win these final two games. Perhaps most importantly, the Reds would love to prevent the Cardinals from reaching the post season. For that to happen, the Reds will need to win the remaining two games against the Cardinals and the Dodgers must not lose.
The Reds will, for the most part, trot out the "A Team" tonight to face Chris Carpenter. The offense has been missing from the Cincinnati bats for weeks and finding the groove against Chris Carpenter in a meaningful October game would be doubly enjoyable.
The lineups are as follows:
REDS
Brandon Phillips 2B
Zack Cozart SS
Joey Votto 1B
Ryan Ludwick LF
Jay Bruce RF
Scott Rolen 3B
Dioner Navarro C
Drew Stubbs CF
Mat Latos P
CARDINALS
Jon Jay CF
Carlos Beltran RF
Matt Holliday LF
Allen Craig 1B
Yadier Molina C
David Freese 3B
Daniel Descalso 2B
Pete Kozma SS
Chris Carpenter P
- Votto goes yard
- Stubbs strikes out 3 times, walks twice, steals 3 bases and scores twice
- Chris Carpenter asks the ump for an explanation several times
- Allen Craig hits into a double-play with Jon Jay on base, serving as punishment for both players having two first names.
