NEWSBREAK: Edinson Volquez rejoined the Reds yesterday, one day after an outing at AAA in which he struck out 12 in seven innings, surrendering five hits and two BBs. He's now spent about as much time in Louisville his season as the majors, pitching just a shade more innings (87.1 minors to 85 in the majors) and making 13 starts there (to 16 with the Reds). He finished his Bats' season with a 2.37 ERA and 3.0 BB/9.
The Cardinals and Reds have combined for 29 runs with the likes of Carpenter, Cueto, Garcia and Bailey starting. That might be less surprising than it would have been earlier this season, but the offensive outpouring has still been impressive. It's encouraging to see production from the younger guys against a good team that's still playing its varsity squad.
Edwin Jackson's WHIP (as a Cardinal) is higher than Bronson's. I guess that's a little bit funny. This will be his first start lifetime against the Reds.
