Farmers Only: Billy Hamilton might not hit, but he sure can run

  • Louisville lost 7-4.  Mike Leake got hit around in his first ever minor league start (the AFL doesn't count!), giving up 5 runs on 8 hits in 5.1 IP.  Hopefully he shakes it off like a misdemeanor charge and comes back strong next time.  Juan Francisco was 2-3 with A WALK and a homerun.  Jeremy Hermida also homered, and Todd Frazier was 2-3 with a walk.  Up Next: Matt Maloney will make the start at 7:05.
  • Carolina got stomped 16-6.  Dallas Buck, I think, might not ever make it to the bigs.  He gave up 11 runs in 1.2 IP, and that was pretty much that.  Donnie Joseph gave up yet another run in relief even though he also struck out the side in his inning.  He now has an ERA of 8.82 despite having 21 strikeouts and just 6 walks in 16.1 innings.  Brad Boxberger and Nick Christiani each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.  Up Next: Carolina is off Thursday.
  • Bakersfield was shut out(!) 7-0.  All four Blaze pitchers gave up at least 1 run, and only 4 batters had hits.  3 of them were by Josh Fellhauer, who was 3-4 with a double. Up Next: Josh Ravin takes the hill at 10:30.
  • Dayton split a double header, winning game one 7-1 but dropping the second 4-2Daniel Corcino had a ridiculous start in the first game, hurling 6 shutout innings, allowing just one hit and no walks, and striking out 11.  Juan Duran and David Vidal each hit their 4th homers of the year.  Game 2 was not as kind, as Daniel Tuttle continued to struggle a bit.  He lasted 6 innings but gave up 4 runs on 6 hits and a walk.  The Dragons only mustered 3 hits in this one.  One was a homer by Jaren Matthews, his 4th of the year.  So now, Billy Hamilton.  Snax has been struggling mightily of late, but last night he showed glimpses of his potential.  Between the 2 games he went 3-6 with a triple and a walk, and stole 5 bases.  So in one night he reached base 4 times and stole 5 bases.  Assuming he didn't steal home after the triple, that means all of them came from 3 times on base.  Hamilton is still having a terrible offensive year, but he now has 29 SB in 36 games with an OBP of .281.  Crazy.  Up Next: They play at 7:00. I'm not sure who is starting.
