There was a bunch of stuff I said about Sam LeCure on here that I had to delete when I realized Edinson Volquez was starting last Sunday against the Cardinals. Well, all of that probably still applies. Maybe even more so.
LeCure has enjoyed day games during his young major league career, appearing in five and allowing a miniscule .541 OPS against. Small sample, sure, but this fits nicely with the sunny disposition of LeCure's Twitter account. If you think LeCure will be the one to move over when Bailey returns, then every start he makes until then is crucial. It's a good bet that decision has been made, but LeCure has already risen in the ranks by acquitting himself well - allowing less than one baserunner per inning so far. Whittle down his inflated HR-rate and LeCure is golden, boasting an xFIP of 3.05.
The Reds still need to prove they can win without the alchemy provided by Scott Rolen. Jay Bruce remains critical to that effort. I might also humbly suggest letting Ramon Hernandez pick up some of the slack, playing him a little bit more and moving him up in the order until Bruce, Hanigan et al. really get going again.
