I hope you kept your brooms handy. Tonight the Reds make a bid for not only another series sweep, but also a winning West Coast swing. While the importance of "key elements" is certainly overstated in sports analysis, winning out West is certainly something that distinguishes these New Reds from the teams we saw closer to the turn of this century. The Reds took another above-.500 trip out West during August 17 - August 25 of last year - one which culminated in a very zany series in San Francisco and a 12-inning, gratuitous 12-11 comeback.

Here's hoping for no extra innings tonight. Both to save the bullpen and your sleep schedules. If Travis Wood pitches like he did in his first start of the season against the Brewers, there shouldn't be any need. In his second start of the season, the Diamondbacks got to Wood for six earned runs - though there may have been an element of bad luck working against him. The snakes seemed to be hitting it where the Reds weren't - and making Wood work by spoiling a lot of pitches. Let's hope he's put the experience safely behind him.

No more Weirdo-Wood!
