I said this in last night's recap, but this could be the last home game before the Reds clinch the division. Let that thought sink in a bit. Awesome.
After today's game the Reds head out on the road for a 10-day, 9-game road trip starting in Houston, then to Milwaukee, and then out to San Diego. The earliest the Reds can clinch is Monday in Milwaukee. I'll put my money on Saturday in San Diego, on national TV. What's great is that I have no fear at this point that they won't win the division. It's just a matter of when (or win!).
Much like Homer Bailey, Edinson Volquez is pitching for his playoff spot. If he comes out and dominates like he did last time out, he could find himself starting game one. However, if he reverts back to his earlier ways (entirely likely given that he's still working back from TJ surgery), we may see him dropped to the bullpen. I vote for domination.
Still trying to guarantee one of the top 2 spots in the playoffs, so every game is still important. Gotta keep beating the teams you are supposed to beat if you want to make sure you are not facing the Phillies in the first round. Go Reds!
