With the Cardinals loss today, a win puts the Reds up by 3 games for the first time since July 8th. So much for the Cardinals running away with the division after they swept the Reds last week.
Edinson Volquez has made six starts this year. In four of those starts he's allowed just one run. He's not the dominant ace that we had dreams of after his first start when he struck out 9, but if he keeps doing what he's doing, the Reds will be better off with him in the rotation. And if he can cut his walks down to 2 or 3 a game consistently, I think we can expect him to be somewhat dominant.
Rodrigo Lopez gives up a lot of home runs (28 in 24 starts). I'd like to see the Reds hit umpteen of them tonight. Of course, even if they did, Paul Keels will probably still act like he's calling a dog show.
Would love to see a sweep in Phoenix. Makes it much easier for the west coast trip to be a success.
Go Reds!
