This will be Mike Leake's third start against the Astros this year. So far, so good. He's pitched 13 innings against Houston and has allowed just one run. In his last start versus them, he shut them out for 6 innings, but the Reds ended up losing 2-0 in 10 innings. Hopefully he's out for revenge today. He hasn't pitched as well of late as his ERA is at 5.62 over his last 7 starts. He did get the win versus the Nationals last Tuesday, though he only pitched 5 innings, and he pitched well versus Philly until the 9th inning, so maybe he's doing better than the recent numbers indicate. Hopefully we'll see the good stuff today.
Wandy Rodriguez has had signs of coming out of his funk, but then he seems to start to sputter again. The good news for Reds fans is that he appears to be in one of those sputter cycles right now. He's given up 8 runs over his last 12 innings, including 3 home runs. If he's struggling, it'd be great to see the Reds put the hammer down quickly and give us another series sweep against the Astros, who the Reds have beat in 16 of the last 18 matchups.
The Reds are back in first place all alone. Hopefully they'll hold on to it for more than just a day!
Go Reds!
