For those worried about Aaron Harang, at least his ERA is lower than Carlos Zambrano's WHIP, amirite?
This will be the 8th time in their careers that these two have started against each other. You may be surprised to find out that the Reds are 5-2 in the previous 7 games. Outside of the 2006 Opening Day when he was done in by bad defense and the long ball, Harang has pitched well against Zambrano. Overall, he's 4-2 with a 4.30 ERA even when you include the 9 runs in 4 innings disaster from 2006. Zambrano has not answered the bell in the same fashion as Harang though, going 1-5 with a 6.48 ERA in his face-offs against the Reds' big right-hander.
Hopefully Harang can avoid mistakes to players like Derek Lee and Aramis Ramirez today, unlike what he did on Opening Day when he gave up the home run to Albert Pujols. I feel confident that he's going to come out give us six strong innings today, and maybe we'll get lucky and find that the Zambrano from Opening Day is still in that Cubs uniform.
