This has been a weird season for Bronson Arroyo. Through his first 14 starts, he had a 5.16 ERA and was averaging 6.3 innings a start and the Reds were 8-6 in those starts, with Arroyo himself going 8-5. In his last 12 starts, he's been averaging about 7.3 innings a start and posted a 2.17 ERA, but the Reds are just 5-7 in those starts. Funny that he was pulling down wins when he didn't really deserve it, and now he can't really buy a win even though he's pitching lights out. Case #47568475 for pitching wins being a lousy stat.
The last time the Reds faced Wandy Rodriguez, they touched him up for 6 unearned runs over 4 innings on 10 hits. Hopefully that wasn't just an illusion, but I'm afraid that it was since he had previously allowed 6 total runs in his previous 32.2 innings against the Reds. Given how poorly the offense is performing of late, I think we'll find that the Reds have not found a new level against Rodriguez.
Just 19 more games left. It'll only take 18-1 to finish the season with a winning record. You gotta have goals, right?
