I said this on Twitter yesterday, but this point right now has got to be the lowest point for the Reds of the last 9 seasons, don't you think? The Pirates intentionally cleared out their roster and gave themselves a Triple-A squad, and the Reds have fallen behind them in the standings after losing 2 straight to them. This in a season where many were picking the Reds as a "surprise team" in the NL. A season where they were only 2 games out of first place on July 4th. And now, they're a team that is challenging for the worst record in baseball.
Speaking of that, the Reds have 3 more teams to catch if they want the first pick in the 2010 draft. As of this morning, they are 1.5 games ahead of (behind?) the Orioles, 4 games away from the Royals, and 8.5 games away from the Nationals. It'll be hard to catch the Nats, even though they have a winning record in August. They've just dug themselves too deep into their slot. And frankly, the Reds won too many games early on. Yep, they ruin everything!
Sadly, if there is a positive goal at this point, it might be to get to 70 wins. Unfortunately, the Reds would basically have to play .500 ball for the remaining 40 games of the season. Does anybody see that happening?
