Honestly, it's hard to look at those two pitching lines and think the Reds have a chance tonight. While Homer Bailey has looked better than his numbers would indicate, the fact is that he's still not getting it done. He did pitch very well in his last time out against the Cardinals, allowing just 2 runs on 3 hits over 7.1 innings back on July 3rd, even drawing praise from Albert Pujols for his stuff. It'll be interesting to see tonight how well Bailey performs the second time against a team.
Unfortunately for Bailey, he's probably going to have to be perfect tonight since the Reds have scored 2 total runs in the last 25 innings they've faced Chris Carpenter. Carpenter has been outstanding this season for the Cardinals and has an shot at the Cy Young Award if he can stay healthy for the rest of the season. The Reds just need to remember that they won games pitched by 2 other big Cy Young contenders just this past weekend. Then again, neither of those guys previously owned the Reds like Carpenter does.
Tonight will be the last time the Reds and Cards face off until the last home stand of the season. The season series has been split so far, 6-6.
