Former Red Kyle Lohse will be taking the mound for the first time since May 23rd after he was forced to miss a start due to a forearm injury. In his last start against the Kansas City Royals, he threw 8 innings of shutout baseball, but prior to that he had only manage to pitch 6 innings in 2 of his previous 6 starts. Otherwise Lohse is having a slightly better version of his typical season to this point.
Johnny Cueto continues to be the man despite taking the loss in 2 of his last 3 starts. The only real concern I have with him right now though is that he has walked 7 batters in his last 13 innings pitched. His control had been outstanding up until those starts though, so hopefully it's just a phase.
The offense owes Cueto a few runs this year, so hopefully they won't be napping still tonight. With the loss last night, they need to win the last two games of the series to finish the road trip in a tie for 2nd place. Having Cueto and Aaron Harang on the mound in both games should help their chances, but the offense needs to put some runs on the board too. I wish I was more confident that that would happen.
